I worked verrry hard on my game, but now when i try to load it up on a (keygen version) of RPGXP, i get the following message "Unexpected file format", and if I try to open the game, I get "Failed to load script", does anybody know what is going on? The game or the file won't even open, as one of those messages appears and then it messes up..

Darico

Your file got corrupted. The only way to stop it is to back up your game frequently or get the legal (Enterbains) version. I'm sorry for your loss; ;

bobdagreat

are you sure theres no way i can fix the problem? man..if there isnt..than i put a whole 6 months worth of time down the drain..

Darico

bobdagreat

uurrh..Thanks anyway...mabye someone else might know about fixing it.. i just hope so

Darico

I lost my game before i relised to back-up, luckly i had made a demo and continued from there.

bobdagreat

i have a demo...but thats like 2 days behind..oh well, do u think ill need to back it up constantly?

Darico

i do it everytime i finish a whole area (1-6maps).

anybody else know any suggestions?  (no offense Darico, i'm just being lazy, and dont really want to back my files up every day)

Darico

heh, none taken. But really it is doing that or getting the legal version. You only need to copy and paste the folder all your game stuff is in to another location. It takes 5sec lol.

bobdagreat

ooooooooooooooooooh i thought i had to keep making zip folders and stuff all the time

bobdagreat

Ill test it out later....its 1:56 AM where i am..and im tired...Bye! if anyone has any ideas or ways to solve my problem please post here! thanks darico

Blizzard

The backup I make weekly has saved my ass numerous times. One time it's just a self-made battle back, another time it's a full set of maps, etc. Making a copy makes much sense, but be sure not to overwrite your old backup. Keep always 2 backups, that's most safe.
Get King of Booze for Android, for iOS, for OUYA or for Windows!

Get DropBox, the best free file syncing service there is!

Darico

Yeah, thats what I do.

Besides; If blizzard does it, it must be right!  :o

I keep mine in a compressed folder so I know nothing can happen to it.

bobdagreat

would i still need back up if i used zip?

Darico

just copy and paste the game folder to 2 different locations and remember where they are. If the main one then gets corrupted, copy and paste (overwrite) the corrupted one and hey presto; done. Also backup daily!

Seriously.  Happened to me once.  It actually worked out for the best, since I decided to redo the game with RMXP (luckily I didn't have a whole lot done.) But anyway, ALWAYS back up your games.  Someone needs to post a sticky about that somewhere if it hasn't already been done.
