Watch this video and see what I mean:-

Chasers War On Everything - Americans
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCkYfYa8ePI

But then again if you went on the streets here in Northampton, England I bet some of those answers would be the same... Just luck of the draw I guess... And the Video could have been edited just to show the wrong answers...

But in General Chasers Video makes the people in America look as Dumb as a post.

Smiles and nods. I have no sound at the moment so the video is meaningless, but yes, I think America, or it's people, have their heads in the clouds. Perhaps you should go into more pacific details, are we just talking about them not realising that the majority of the world hates them, or that they're so arrogant with their " patriotism " that they are blind to the tyrannies of their government?

Note: I say this is Intelligent discussion.

Video obviously edited out the right (but rare?) answers. And I'm sure all Americans aren't like this, although it certainly seems so. And also note that (although I'm not sure) many users here are possibly American, and I can't imagine why but it just might offend them somehow.

That's because they're arrogant. If you Yanks want to prove me wrong, take this thread in a dignified way.

Perhaps we should all state if we are American or not?

I was, but no longer am.

Yes but the Majority of Americans are over patriotic, with patriotism comes pride, a sin no doubt because it causes one to ignore the truth because of their own blinded agenda.

Nah... I have not put the video on here to upset or offend...

I have never been to America... I don't know the people of America... I know all of them can't be as bad as put across in the video... I just wonder if Average Joe Public is like in the Video... Are people with a good standing on General knowledge hard to find in America...?

From the users on here I have to say they are all very clued up people, especially on Tech side of PC's... I have been nothing but impressed by the members on here.

The video I posted is pretty funny... I hope I get some feedback that can explain some of the contents... I am shite at Geography and even I know what Austrillia looks like... (there is part of the vid they label it as France).

I don't dislike Americans, I don't dislike any race or culture... I have elements I don't agree with, and I have bug bears about my own country too...

If some one place a Video like this of England up... Like the Chav's or some thing I wouldn't be offended I dislike the Chav label England has... I wouldn't back them up...

Americans come across as patriotic yes. Infact, from what I know of Americans they are assholes... But I'm not going to let myself judge everyone as a generalization to the country they live in.

Sadly most of you are human, bound to peer absorption and conformity. I'm sure there are some who are separate from the ideas of cultural bounding, but not many. I don't consider to many who don't have predigest because of their upbringing. Community is more of a prison then freedom of true thought.

What? Where did I say I was American? See this is what I fucking mean. Where in my posts have I screamed American? I think this proves about you're judging by country thing.

QuoteC'Mon, I doubt the country you live in makes you arrogant. Everyone is different.

It differs from country to country... Common rules and ethics apply and change peoples way of thinking... some countries have no real value for human life...

I was wondering if in America nobody gives a shite about whats outside of America... I mean if I lived in the most powerful country in the world why would I want to learn about other countries... and I was wondering if the Average Joe public thinks in that way.  I mean the question on English Currentcy is the Pound £... I know what America's Currentcy is the dollar $, but I couldn't tell you the currentcy of Greenland or Iran... (I know many other currentcys and I have never been abroad)

May be these things are not taught or bothered learning in a nation as big as the USA...

QuoteWhat? Where did I say I was American? See this is what I fucking mean. Where in my posts have I screamed American? I think this proves about you're judging by country thing.

I don't think any one has said you are American... (the word American or ataraxy2 doesn't feature in your quoted area)
QuoteSadly most of you are human

Other than what...? If we are not human then what are we...?

Whilst American may be the most powerful (I wouldn't actually know), it apparently isn't the best place to live due to crime rates.

I can't answer that fully, but I can tell you this, most ( not all ) Americans truly think they live in the greatest nation on earth... They are too prideful of their nation. But then again, I'm sure I would be to if I where American...

QuoteWhilst American may be the most powerful (I wouldn't actually know), it apparently isn't the best place to live due to crime rates.
Oh, and they're not. A quote I believe from some great chines man about what would happen if they went to war with the states: " On the first day, we would lose a million people. On the second day we would lose a million people. On the third day, THEY would surrender. " China has an unlimited amount of solders at their disposal, because they have NO problem putting citizens into battle.

So are you saying the Crime rate is so high, cuz instead of learning general knowledge their robbing or shooting their neighbours ?

The Crime rate is high cuz of Gun crime mainly... I guess you may have a point to a degree... Americans know MUCH more than I do about firing a gun or what gun is best to kill a Jew... (Watch this video of Borat trying to buy a Gun in the USA:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs9zz_zCWlo)

I hope Americans start posting soon...

Not that I want an argueement, I would seriously like to know if the majority of the video is a correct view on the majority of the people in the USA...

ataraxy2 Your from Australia, so is the man who made the video, But I wouldn't say cuz he made the film means all people in Australia think the same... But in General I agree with Deliciously_Saucy statements and I think many other people world wide would have the same conclutions...

But, then again, you can't go on acutely statistics because they have a higher number of people there. You have to go by percentages compared to other nations of a ratio of 1:1.

Yeh, I don't like the English either.

Djangonator

It's silly that you guys are debating about America and none of you are American.

One thing I'd like to point out is that it seems that the guy is interviewing people in Texas (note the Alamo and Cowboys logo). Then, check who he's interviewing- obviously not the brightest types of people. They're pretty poor examples of our country, and it's no wonder that you foreigners (:P) have such negative ideas about us.

Really, though, it is up to an individual to keep themselves informed. I doubt the guy was going to go up to someone who was doing something like, oh, say, reading a newspaper.

Not all of us are dumb, and not all of us are conservative Republicans, just like not all Brits are posh, and not all Australians wear dungarees.

Why rare? Notice how few people were in that video. If you're going to walk around with a camera crew all day you're bound to find a few people who are dumb, flustered by the cameras, or both. I've seen videos from this TV show before, and they interviewed the governor of some Midwestern state who made himself out to be an ignorant jackass. Guess what? This says almost nothing about Americans in general. If they did this in the UK they would get the exact same results. You are the ones being arrogant for saying what amounts to "Typical stupid Americans! We're so much better than them!"

Quote from: Deliciously_Saucy on January 24, 2007, 04:04:59 PMI was, but no longer am.

You still are, even if you live outside of the US and don't have American citizenship anymore. You don't stop being an American just like a German can't stop being a German.

Mmm, that's good stereotype!

QuoteI don't dislike Americans, I don't dislike any race or culture...

You don't know any, yet you feel that you have the right to make judgments about 300 million people (or at least the tens of millions from the Midwest) by basing your opinion on comedy show clips. Wouldn't you be bothered if I judged the UK when all I really knew about them was based on videos of chavs I got off of YouTube?

How does knowing what another's currency is make you more worldly? Americans probably aren't as familiar with foreign currencies because 1) we aren't as close to those countries as you are. Immigrants dump their money at the currency exchange at the airport, and 2) the USD is a preferred currency in international commerce. A greenback is good in more places than the Real or the Yen is.

Quote from: ataraxy2 on January 24, 2007, 04:48:05 PMEh... do you think people gain ego out of living in a country?
Of course. Look at the people in this very thread.

Quote from: ataraxy2 on January 24, 2007, 04:40:14 PMWhilst American may be the most powerful (I wouldn't actually know), it apparently isn't the best place to live due to crime rates.

Yet another stereotype. While the US has  more crime than the utopia you've created for yourselves in Europe, it doesn't deserve to be made out to be some sort of gigantic Somalia. Billions of people throughout the world dream of having crime rates like ours.

Quote from: landofshadows on January 24, 2007, 04:48:26 PMThe Crime rate is high cuz of Gun crime mainly... I guess you may have a point to a degree... You obviously know nothing about nothing. Our government isn't tyrannical, no more than the government of England or Australia or Norway. You want a tyranny? Look at Cuba or North Korea.

QuoteNote: I say this is Intelligent discussion.
It's more like a bunch of arrogant Europeans and an Australian looking down on a country as nothing but a collection of idiots. Is that any more intelligent than if I started a discussion about how black people are inherently inferior to whites?

QuoteThat's because they're arrogant. If you Yanks want to prove me wrong, take this thread in a dignified way.

Not everyone is an agendist, you know. In fact, I'd gander most aren't.

Most Americans know the Canadians use dollars, English use pounds, and the Mexicans (and most other Latin American countries) pesos. Also, I wouldn't say being able to name the currency of the Maldives or Afghanistan is really a sign of knowing your stuff about the world- try getting somebody to talk about the issues between the Karen and military government of Myanmar, for example. Much better than naming a currency.
Btw, Greenland's owned by Denmark. Hence, they use the same currency.

Quote from: ataraxy2Whilst American may be the most powerful (I wouldn't actually know), it apparently isn't the best place to live due to crime rates.
Crime rates are relatively wonderful compared to most of the world, and in fact even  dismissing that they're not so bad. Living in America is really quite safe. Really.
I won't get into a gun debate with LoS here, but I will say that guns have a neglible effect on crime rates.

Quote from: Deliciously_SaucyOh, and they're not. On the second day we would lose a million people. On the third day, THEY would surrender. " China has an unlimited amount of solders at their disposal, because they have NO problem putting citizens into battle.
Wow. Okay, first off- having the world's largest standing army at your disposal means nothing. If China sent hundreds of thousands of soldiers, assuming they could, to America, we would decimate them before they set foot on shore with our advanced arsenal. Technology, good training, and competent leadership is much more important in battle than large numbers.
Secondly, America has quite a bit more sway in the world than China does. It has stronger alliances in Europe, and its also buddy buddies with the wealthier nations of Asia. In fact, neither nation wants to go to war, we're both quite depedent on each other economically. Yet, somehow, I can't help but believe that America would survive the economic implications more easily than China.

Edit: Djangonator, of course all Aussies wear dungarees. Also, they all wrangle crocodiles, had two weeks of mourning for Steve Irwin when the stingray got him, and use kangaroos instead of cars. Did I mention they're all criminals? It's in the genes!
Quote from: ElegyIt's fucking sad that you and the cat can't stick to the subject and even attempt to defend your little bullshit religion without jumping to personal attacks, maybe thats because evolution is such a stupid idea it's hard to back it up with any claims pertaining to reality.

I knew the answers to pretty much all of those questions. To base an opinion of all the people of a country on the idiocy of a few is the epitome of ignorance.
That said, I feel that the average american citizen IS out of touch and doesn't really know what's going on. It's a pretty big problem. More Americans probably tuned in to watch American Idol last night than did the state of the union a few hours earlier. Still, I don't see how this makes us so much different. I can't help but imagine that the majority of your respective countries are also ignorant of current events. People don't care enough and governments don't try hard enough to make them care.
