MAJOR UPDATES INCOMING:
Custom Battle System Incoming!!!(Sneak-peek Screenshots below)Actually, after receiving positive feedback about the 'cinematic' battle scenes during the intro 'music video' between Reiv and the soldiers in the prison, and the fighting scene between the two sisters in the intro cut scene;
the battle system for the game will be almost identical to those cutscenes in terms of style.
I am about 90% done the said battle system. The CBS itself is
100% event-created, although I use the HP/Mana bar display script to show them overhead. The CBS is fully live-action based and requires some reflexes and strategies, with a refreshing new aspect of 'wind direction' (more on it when demo comes out).
It also contains features such as Area of Effect attacks, ranged attacks, teleportation and hopefully some other refreshing components as I think of them.
It is about the most frustrating event system I've ever made; utilizing over 40 variables and 20 switches, distributed among 8ish parallel processing events. On my laptop, it doesn't seem to lag at all (which I expected it would), with a FPS of 30-40.
Expect the demo of the battle system be out in 3 days or so. I have a comp sci exam tonight at 7:00. :x
Mean while, here are some screenshots:

About the actual game itself:Just because I haven't updated in a long time, does not mean that it's dead! A major update demo is expected to be coming within the next week or so, including the actual game play of progression of chapter 1, 'A familliar stranger' and major improvement from the current intro + map demo. I will also be switching the current facesets used; as I have made a bit over 100 custom face sets for the current 8 notable characters (with different expressions and etc.), because Quintessence TBV is a story-oriented RPG, and good character emotion reaching capacity is important to reach-out to the player.
That's it for now. My last exam for the year is to be over on this saturday; so I will start bringing together the real update and the new demo then.
Sorry for the long months of apparent idling. But I hope it'll be worth it when I get this up in the next week or so.
And lastly, a screenshot from a new atmospheric extra features scene; of the 'live performance' harmonica + guitar duo of the main theme by Reivier and Lunair:
