N-Star is a new COMMERCIAL project that is being developed in RMVX. The release date is JUNE 15th!
Storyline
N-Star is a person that was formed when the respective black and white shurikens of a demon and an angel combined in midair. The object of the game is to go out and defeat Devon and Satan. (Yes, I know this sounds religious, but that's not the POINT!)
Demo is here! (http://www.2shared.com/file/eA_yjWlc/N-Star_-_Demo_3.html), and preorder link is here (http://n-starofficialwebsite.webs.com/).
What does this game even look like? I checked the website and couldn't get any useful information there either. Besides that the game is $15.00.
Sounds really good. Where do I send my money?
I'd try the demo before I buy it, but... on the site you can use paypal.
EDIT: Demo is up!
Just looking at your signature link makes me not want to try it.
I tried the demo... Let's start off with, is this a joke?
[Feedback (more or less)]:
> The title screen makes me laugh, and I'm still confused as to what it's supposed to be. When you go to your menu, you see the picture of someone that isn't even you. The maps look like you worked on them for a good 30 seconds, then went to the next. Everything is big and blank. You start on some beach in which you have to run left on a black grass map until you eventually notice a small brick house. Enter the "Door" on the house and you appear in a giant city, which again is very big and blank. This town had 3 houses (that could be entered), the first was a big room with a man who says you can train inside. Go through a gate inside this house and you fight one-hittable enemies and get insane exp. The second is a blank house, with a staircase in the far right corner that leads to a blank room with a talking bed that asks if you want to sleep on it for 25$. The third house is a shop with 6 items. That's the demo. Congratulations?
Again, is this a joke? Because you're expecting 15$ for a game so poorly built, that a child could create it, and send it into the Game In a Week Contest 6 days early.
I'm not usually this harsh... I feel strange.

Quite true. @_@
Alright, I'm no ace game creator, but I am quite the game player.
I would comment on the blandness of your maps, but that would be giving your maps too much credit. Try adding some scenery and such. Not to mention the maps are way bigger than they need to be. As for the text, all I have to say is "why?" You can't even read a whole line because it gets cut off. I'm not even going to comment on the title screen. The easiest and most effective improvement you could make is to not charge people for this. This game needs a lot of work.
I'd pay $30.
Oh gawd... I'm usually very constructive with my cristicism of a game.
But Fuck me, this title screen is fucking terrible, I can barely read any of this writing.
Just extracting it was painful to watch... We all have the RTP, you do not need to include that in your game download, and it will save quite a lot of space if you don't. Then again, I won't continue to complain about this seen as how you plan to sell this game, and your 'customers' probably won't have the RTP.
Extracted a 'wav' file... It's only three minutes long and it's nearly 30MB, goddamn it man, convert your music into an ogg file. And whilst typing this, your title screen music has 'attempted' to loop and that static that it made just killed my ears
AHHHH!!!!!    started a new game and couldn't read jack shit of what the text said. Please for all holy goodness, change that background in the window or at least change the freaking text colours.
If I can't read the text without squinting, you're doing something wrong.
LOL, what kind of mapping is this... I thought that I was terrible at mapping, you literally have NOTHING on these maps, some sand, some grass and some water is not something I consider to be an 'ok' map.
@Anyone else who played the game, was I the only one who was stuck at the road because I thought it was a wall?
Uhm, WTF!? some guy asked me if I wanted to challenge him and when I said no, I got a game over...
Nope, I'm done with this game.
I agree with everything that hiromu656 said. This had better be a joke.
I'm normally somebody who is nice and gives good constructive feedback on a game... But this game, man... This game.
The title screen irritated me, The fact that I need to focus to read irritates me (change your font type as well, cause even in the parts where I COULD see the text clearly, I still needed to focus because of that font).
The battling is just the default battle system, which is fine, I'm using it too... But, add something to it... Give it a HUD, a better background image, dynamic monsters that don't die in one hit... SERIOUSLY, ANYTHING.
And the worst thing (at least for me), there is NO story to this, I saw some stuff about a demon, then nothing.
Your signature which advertises your game is also terrible, and it's WAY too big.
:bigmad:
Also, this is NOT a demo, this is a 10 minute game to request feedback, and boy do you sure have a lot of work to put into this game before June 15th.
Good luck.

Seems as if someone is  today.
Anyways, I agree with what DP3 said. This game just ISN'T cut out to be a commercial game.
I mean liek, srsly.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, this game looks amazing!

Not at all.
But the best way to explain how I felt about what I've seen in this game was with many  faces.
Generally, when you have a commercial game, you also have a demo version for people to play to test if they would like the full version or not, if this is seriously considered to be a demo for a commercial game, I'm not expecting many sales.
Aside from that, this is probably a joke anyway, so I'm just going to leave it at that.
Many things:
1st, I AM GOING TO CHANGE THE FONT!!!!!!!!!!!
2nd, after you train in the ring, there is a first boss
3rd, YOU DON'T SEE THE WHOLE GAME IN THE DEMO!!!! (There are plenty of bonus missions after you beat the game.
I admit, some of the first maps are a little bland, and I'm going to make the beach smaller, and add more buildings to the city. Besides that, I HAVE WORKED A VERY LONG TIME ON THE REST OF THE GAME!!!!
So do you have any better demos?
Alright I'll give my demo review. First off what the heck do you do? I'm not trying to sound mean it's just it talks about some angel-devil thing and then I'm on a beach. After finding my way into the city I go to into the houses, which by the way had really screwed up doors. I did the training thing and got to level three instantly after hitting him once. Then I went out and fought some robber which was also one hit kill. I would remove the debug thing; if you want me to I can give you a simple cheat script I wrote. In conclusion, please redo the whole. This is in no way meant to be used commercially. I would recommend looking at this mapping tutorial (http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/61-mapping-in-five-easy-steps/). Also I would add some more features; Atelier (http://atelier-rgss.com/index.html) has great scripts that you can use commercially. Scrap the title screen it's awful. Finally I would hire someone to do graphics; it's all part of going commercial.

Hey, don't be mad. We're a community designed to help people get better at rpg maker. How long have you been using the program? You can't jump into making commercial games on day one. Start smaller.
This is my first game, and I've already sold $200 worth of preorders, so I wouldn't be worried.

No, I have a big school. ;D And make it $240 now that I brought the demo to school. ^-^
If you redo that demo, and update things so that it is more enjoyable to play.
I will replay it and give better feedback :V
New demo!
http://www.filedropper.com/n-stardemo (http://www.filedropper.com/n-stardemo)
I played it and I don't see a difference other than the fact "demo" was terribly drawn on the title screen and I was instantly killed by the burglar. So same advice as last time, but change the font color and get a face graphic for the character instead of one that barely resembles the character. Also make sure that the text fits properly in the text box.
Now when I play the game, I can't see any text at all. You'll need to include the proper font file for this game if you would like people to play it.
Also, you've got two wav files in this project that you really don't need, and that ridiculous amount of space it is taking up can be drastically shortened to make you demo smaller in size.
So again, please convert your audio files into ogg format.
I cannot play this game without any text either.

Because I don't.
I decided to play the game anyway, the only difference is that the beach seems to have a little amount of vibrance since you've added a longer wall to it... But that's it.
I can now continue past the city and into what appears to be a forest with a long bridge.
I thought that you said that you put more time into what wasn't in the original demo, this map is also plain and lacks much texture, and this is coming from somebody who usually doesn't care about mapping.
I don't even want to continue with my feedback on this, cause I'm afraid I might mention things that you as a creator couldn't handle.
I wish you luck with your game and all that, but I'm staying away from it.
I forgot to take the old font out of the folder, and the font used was "Lucidia Calligraphy" or something like that, which is a newer windows font. And the forest was meant to be a maze before the second boss, which you can access in the demo. I'll take your advice about the beach, and I'll add some trees to the forest, and some more buildings to the city, but what I said about the font still stands. I'll put it in the folder if that floats your boat. Expect a new demo by Friday.
There is a new demo up! The font issue is fixed, and if it doesn't work, just install the font in the "Installation Instructions" folder.

Eden: Woah, wait, what? As long as you have the money, you aren't worried about how well you are presenting your game? You
should be worried in the future about potentially over-charging for under-developed work once people start asking for their money back.
Gah, the
callousness of that comment just caught me completely off-guard.
Ok, people like the demo where I'm showing it (though part of that is probably the initial 'He made a game! It's awesome!' reaction). There is a heck of a lot of bonus content after the game is beaten, which is what that "The Lost Pages" option is about. I have been working on the game for a while now, though.
I have a hard time believing your demo convinced anyone at your school to buy the game. What grade are you in?
Why do you need to know?
Probably for maturity's sake, dude. Certain grade levels in school life have more maturity than others, so she was wondering which grade level you were at to help clarify a bit and to offer some advice. [I believe, I mean you can't really TRULY know people on forums.]
Trine 1 was on steam for $1.80 today. It's an indie game with good platforming and great design with solid coding. You're asking for $15 pre-orders for a game that is never going to come out that's being developed in RPG Maker and using the default assets.
You're so stupid!!! Also,

If they knew HOW you're making the game and that all the assets are included with the package they'd be far less impressed. If I got to judge I'd say what you're doing is borderline illegal.
QuoteYes, you can distribute games you created with RPG Maker XP/VX or IG Maker, using its included (or added on) materials, as freeware or commercial ware. You are also allowed to modify the materials with other software such as Photoshop, provided they are only used within RPG Maker or IG Maker software, and not sold/or distributed. You can also include your own graphics and music if you wish. Please ensure that those games do not include any material which infringe others' rights.
Please note that any modification of the exe, dll, or other game files generated by RPG Maker or IG Maker is forbidden. Also, you may not use the materials included in the software (or add-on package) within other game engines or software.
RPG Maker VX official website
BTW, I'm in 7th grade.
That doesn't mean you can claim it's your work, nor does it mean that it's any more impressive.
I have a hard time believing that even 7th graders thought that this piece of crap was worth $15.
Or the fact that they had $15 to give you in the first place.
I had a go just to see what Hiromu, DP3 & DrTodd were complaining about. This is the worst game ever conceived.
I've never used RPG Maker and I bet that I could make a better game than this in less than a day.
You keep talking about how many extras you get once you complete the game. Well I don't care. If I can't even play the demo without rage quitting... Why the hell would I play through the full game just for some bonus missions?
You better put a hell of a lot more effort into the demo you're releasing if you want anyone over the age of 12 to be satisfied with playing it.
Fix everything that is wrong with your game (See feedback by others). Or please post results when you get a mass flood of requests for refunds after you release the game.
I wish I was that good a salesman in 7th grade, $20 pencils were on the market.
@Revtattertot
I'm a male.
Correction: They all got the $20 bonus pack.
It's not about the legality of using the assets, it's having the balls to charge for it
He's obviously from Mongolia or something.
@hiromu656: Hard to tell from forum pics, so apologies.
Although, I do wish the same about the salesman ideal.
@AuraMasterNeal: I played your demo, and here's my thoughts on it.
I just don't see quality work in the map detail and the text was kind of... out there. There's an apparent lack of storyline, which is a minus in my book, and some of the fights in this game are harder than some people's 2nd bosses.
You, my friend, have your work cut out for you if you want to make money on this game.
Take our advice,
Revtattertot.
Oh christ. Kid, look. You need to really rethink what you're doing, okay? Go look at tutorials and such, and learn how to do better art, and such.
YOu're not gonna get much sympathy here, just so you know.
If you're gonna criticize, do it like Revtattertot.
Don't think I'm on your side or anything: I'm just trying to be at least borderline civil, just to keep from creating a net-mess.
Just take our words to heart and put effort into your game. If you want an example of how it can be better for a 1st timer, I have a demo up you can see. It would probably be a pretty good idea to take notes and references, so as to display and process your databases and events properly. In trying to keep in my civil tone, I'm just going to end my advisory right here with this:
Take our advice [or at least mine],
Revtattertot.

As has been stated, your maps are very bare. Please look at these tutorials and follow their advice for making maps that are a bit more pleasing on the eye. Another suggestion would be to design with the maker in 1/1, so you can have a better idea of what the player is seeing when they play the game.

You'll notice that each of these have a different approach and yet they all "fill the screen' when they map. Try to accomplish the same effect, but of course, in your own style.
The same applies to your interiors:
(https://rmrk.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi597.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ftt52%2Fyouthminister40k%2FPicture5.png&hash=f4c9de0c34a1ba1614d06502f3f33c7c35c16cf4)

Think about your own home, and what all fills a room or what all is needed to live there. These poor NPC's need much more in their space!
Also, a personal preference: You allow the character in several places to touch the "edge of the map" without teleporting anywhere. Please put up walls or similar so that it doesn't appear that an invisible barrier has stopped your character.
This is an excellent tutorial on interior mapping:
http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/1176-mapping-in-five-easy-steps-indras-quick-and-practical-method/ (http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/1176-mapping-in-five-easy-steps-indras-quick-and-practical-method/)
Pay careful attention to how he designs his rooms.
As far as game play goes, you haven't really given the player much to go on other than he was created to defend heaven and is now trapped in a city just outside a beach. I say trapped because as I went to fight the burglar, the music file was not there. The game crashed and I wasn't able to play any further.
Also, please think about what NPC's are doing and why. I know very few people who would offer me $50,000 just for walking into their house and agreeing to do them a favor. Your "city" is also sparsely populated. I counted 5 people, one of whom owns a shop that sells speed ups you can buy without limit (after obtaining $50,000), another owns a dojo, one gives you the money, one is an old lady and another the city's only crook. Do you know many villages that only have 5 people? Consider giving more life to your city.
Please continue to work hard on your game's map and plot. Ask the who, what, when, how and why questions of your plot and give us more to go with.
I would also recommend giving back all of your friend's money before they ask for it back.

This time infinity.
Also, if you do continue to work on this game, learn some restraint and when someone is giving you criticism, don't yell at them(that's what big letters is perceived as) or get angry like you have done in every post that was responding to some of the best criticism one can get. If you want us to talk to you like a child and say "aw it is so good you did a good job but try to color in the lines next time," we won't...well some of us might but you'd have to be a pretty cute looking child...and probably in a grade lower than 7th, so get used to a bit harsher criticism. Most of it in this thread was very constructive and should have been enough for you to learn from.
Regardless, you better get to working on that game and learning how to do things better. You've only got till June 15th to finish it thanks to the release date you set...and you've got a lot of work to do to make things better.

Bahaha. It's not entirely unreasonable to measure each tile to be about 1.5m^2 when you take into account average human height and the size of the default sprites vs. the tilesets; in essence that would mean these people have houses that are at least 165m^2. These big rooms are about the size of an average american household and their sole furniture is a bedroll, a king-sized bed or a bar counter. Just imagine the echo a "house" like that would produce ;8
Once again, the maps showing the apparent detail or lack thereof. The music's a plus, but only slightly, and unfortunately, I literally did get a migrain from trying to read some of the text. The story hasn't been developed upon much, so not much else I can say, nad I did experience that crash the other guy had.
I did see "some" progress, but not enough.
With civility,
Revtattertot.
Just played it...
Here is my one-word-review:
MINDFUCK!

You'll notice that each of these have a different approach and yet they all "fill the screen' when they map. Try to accomplish the same effect, but of course, in your own style.

I was actually looking for mapping tutorials yesterday, this actually helped
me.
To the op: You have to move out of your comfort zone and make things realistic to some extent or be willing to scrap things that aren't 'up-to-par' even if you have the emotional attachment of the time spent on them. The main character may be important, but not everyone will treat them the same(I'm not talking about allies vs. enemies). Also, when it comes to storyline, the characters should feel as though they are all independent of one another with possibly different motivations.
1. Short thread.
2. NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER.
3. "This is a brand new game that's out in 8 weeks" By the looks of it it's taken you about a day to make it so far.
4. MONEY? SERIOUSLY? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU? I can't even BEGIN to explain all the shit wrong with that. My god.
What's the current review thus far on your game since it's release yesterday?
You been doing well? :)
His "website" hasn't even updated, hah. Total scam :gracie:

This is my first game, and I've already sold $200 worth of preorders, so I wouldn't be worried.
You must have a big family.
I cried laughing XD
Is this horrible game even out yet?
Also, read my previous post for my full opinion on this calamity.
