Title: real time rpg system
Post by: theskarekrow on January 15, 2009, 02:48:10 AM
hey, i just got rpg maker xp today and i was wondering if it would be possible for me to set up a real time battle system using either the events or scripiting offered in RMXP. i know in the past i have worked out a simple system for rpg maker 2003, however that was over a year ago, ill i can remember is it strongly depended on conditional branches and the different ways to trigger an event.

Since you know the name "real time," it might be good to look that up. You might also be looking for an ABS.

well as the saying goes, blindly type first then look things up, so ill just explain what i mean, by "real time" i mean your walking around a map, you see an enemy, you walk upto it, you it a button to attack, you attack it. what im looking for is how to make a game style simular to the 2d legend of zelda games.

if I'm not mistaken and ATB or Active Time Battle, would refer to a battle system in which all the moves played my the AI are timed, rather then the traditional let's take turns attacking each other style, and is not what I'm looking for.

Do a little searching first. There are a bunch of scripts that do exactly what you described.

You should look for an ABS. Active Battle System. It is exactly what you are describing. I don't know where you pulled ATB from anything in this post.

You can do it just through events, but you should get a little more proficient with events before trying it. And once you know enough about events to be able to do it, then you won't need anyone to tell you how  ;)

To quote Scar from the Lion King, "I'm surrounded by idiots."

If you want a good explanation of the Blizz-ABS script, try talking to Blizzard, the person who actually made the script. You can find him at his website Chaos Project.
