Ok, I am planning on getting a cheap HDD, $80 bucks for a 250 GB External Seagate HDD. It uses the USB port, ect.

Anyway:

[question] Can I set this HDD to where everything I download goes onto it, like if I plug it in an download a file, will it download to my near death internal 20GB HDD or my super sleek 250 GB HDD? [/question]

you can set almost to download/save anywhere. What are you downloading with?

Well, if I download like a hotlink file through firefox, can I just click save without having to set it to my external?

in Firefox, hit tools, options, and in the main tab change download location

So long as nothing else changes drive-wise, when you unplug/replug it back in, windows will give the drive the same letter :)
