Are there any classic games that you would like to see given a modern sequel? Remakes seem to be a popular thing these days, with the PSP giving some classics a change of veneer and gameplay a little kick. So which ones would you want?
~Wizards and Warriors - This would be awesome in 3d.
~A Boy and His Blob - Still in limbo for the DS. ;_;
~Jackal - First NES game to use a power metal soundtrack.
~Chrono Trigger - Sadly, this doesn't seem likely at present time.
Now you're talking!
Chrono Trigger, definately. I would love to see this updated. I enjoyed playing Chrono Cross, but it never felt like it belonged in the same universe as Chrono Trigger. CT had some terrific music, too, I recall.
Final Fantasy VII... I know I'm opening up a can of worms here, but I simply could never get over the wooden block hands on the characters. I would also love to see a more comprehensible translation.
Phantasy Star... from SEGA. I still own the original Sega Master System and cartridge for this game! I've heard there is a remake already in Japan, but where is it for us poor americans?
STARFLIGHT... from Binary Systems and EA. I know I keep bringing this game up, but for goshsakes, go play it!
SUPER SMASH TV!!!!!! :tpg:
That game ruled my childhood
Good topic.
Lol, I agree with FFVII.
FFVI.
It's not old, but Suikoden 4, that game fucked up.
Secret of Mana 3 (not released in English).
I'm sure there are others, but I can' think of them atm...
Secret of Mana 3 is a great game. I love the Mana style. Also, Smash T.V.! I used to play that all the time, too! There is an Xbox 360 arcade game called "Geometry Wars". Its not like Smash TV, but the control scheme is similar, in that one stick moves and one shoots. I love that game.
"Big money, Big prizes, I love it!"
Vagrant Story is open ended, and they indeed were planning a sequel, but because the game didnt sell so well, they scrapped it. Bastards :( they only have themselves to blame too, Square hardly promoted it at all, instead giving all their promotional power to FFVIII ;9
Haha a boy and his blob <3 I totally remember that. I liked Galaxy 5000 too :3. An update to the Blaster Master Franchise would be awesome.

Lol, JELLYBEANS!
Just remembered one: Morrowind, I would have preferred that game without the loading and crashes, then that sellout of a game, Oblivion.

Yeah. I guess it's really really really awful.
I would love to see Seiken Densetsu 3 out and remade in 3d.
Super Metroid. None of the ne games can compare, except maybe Metroid Prime, damn, the Metroid Prime itself was really tough...but it ate my phazon. :snes:
And also, King of Dragons! That game rocked!!!!
i want a decent metal gear solid on par with the playstaion one not these cinematic crap ones
or even better a decent goldeneye remake the new one sucks balls
Legend of dragoon for 360.
The Metal Gear games are already genius. You can't really make a better cinematic experience. Blaster Master would make an excellent remake, I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it. Remember that crab boss in the underwater stage? It took me so long to beat him.
I just used the glitch where you pause the game while a grenade is exploding on his face and it continues do damage while it's paused >=)

That's doesn't work on the crab, i tried it. :( I'm not talking about the things with long claws and a spiky vagina on their head. I mean the crab that spits bubbles.
zombies ate my neighbors, this was the first game i ever played and is responsible for me becoming a gaming freak.
streets of rage, too, a classic game that would be awesome remade
Yeah, streets of rage would be cool to be remade, but what would they add? better graphics? there isn't much to improve upon.
maybe add in a few new moves, yeah improved graphics as well, maybe make it for the ds and add some cool things for the touchscreen
Yeah, I can see it being cool on DS. I also just read about morrowind. Picture this: Morrowind, good (better than the xbox) graphics, using Wiimote for different types of weapons (thats just awesome), with the half life two physics engine. ragdoll deaths, movable things, etc.
Megaman Legends for the Wii.
Best Megaman game ever
Megaman legends was not the best Megaman game ever. It was hardly even a Megaman game. I can't wait until they Power Up Megaman 2 and 3. Those are the best.
Earthworm Jim :D I loved that game but for the DS and still side scrolling they would just ruin it any other way
Betrayal at Krondor all the way. That game would be great with better graphics and new riddle chests... This game is so awesome, though I suppose a lot of you prolly won't know it. Also, maybe Sonic 3 too with the sonic & knuckles add on
Mmmm... so many good titles of old, so many new stupid ways to ruin them.
But i think like that: when I get resources or rights to re-make some, i would remake in great style:
- DungeonKeeper (1, 2 and made the 3)
- ULTIMA (whole saga)
- RIVER RAID
- BURGERTIME
- DREDNAUGH FACTOR (intellivision rulled!)
- Kyrandia (whole saga - rpg system)
- Lands od Lore (ditto)
... there's more, but... i think all the franchises belongs to either EA or VU (as everthing else).
nobody thinks King of Dragons????!!!! :-\
Try it out, it rocks! It's one of the best games ever!
It would be sweet to see an updated Faxanadu, as well.
I'm to stupid to use google... so what is Faxanadu?

CRAP! That's not fair...!
*Sniffs*
I was going to suggest Vagrant Story, because I never had a chance to buy it. :( There are many great games out there that have been underrated unfairly...
Well... I would sure love to see many of the TLoZ classics modernized for the Wii. And I am not talking about emulating, formatting or any of that. I talk about re-making them for the young ones, so that they can enjoy of those games that were there years before their birth. And since many kids that any game that is not 3D should suck, they should re-make the games with the latest graphics...
But that probably won't happen, since there are more important projects for them to finish. But, it's still nice to imagine it. :P
I'm playing Lufia 2 on ZNES... its a good game :=:
Metal Marine - Namaco (Snes) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Marines

Imagine Terranigma 3D... :o
Ah, Blizz... Terranigma was good, but the END, man... THE END!!!! The end ruined the game!!!
Terranigma 3d would be cool, but the end should be fixed.
Secret of Gaia too. (Or it was Legend of Gaia? Damn.)
It was Illusion of Gaia. And Illusion of Time in Europe. Best game in the series.
Yeah, Illusion of Time/Gaia was good, but I liked Terranigma more.
Yeah, the end could have really been better. I liked how he was...
...actually created from evil and that he turned against them, but it was kinda weird... But I liked that the "evil" isn't shown as absolute, but in a completely different way like "Light creates, Darkness destroy everything that is not important."
:)
Gauntlet. That game kicks ass. If my NES still worked, I'd prolly play meh nes port of it right now.
Fuu... guntlet WAS remade, for the PS if i remember. "Gauntlet legends" or something... you played with all the four characters...
I personally liked the megadrive/genesis version of Gauntlet - i still rearing the BGM musics :P
Well, remake it again or omething. Gauntlet kicks total ass.
The new Gauntlet games are lame.
As are the old ones.
I never really liked the Gauntlet games either. Especially the new ones.

I was actually partial to Soul Blazer for some bizarre reason. But Illusion of Gaia was a close second.
I'm playing Terranigma, Lufia 2, and Breath of Fire 2. Which is better?

I never got that far in it, of course I never really played it...although I own it.
Altered Beast
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Sunset Riders
A modern Oasis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Oasis) game would be pretty cool.
It's also about time for a new Panzer Dragoon game in my opinion.
There's a new gunstar heroes for gba. Check it out, its pretty sweet.

Shame on you. Thats a damn good game.
Mmmm... seeing as you guys pointed snes\genesis titles asking for remakes, i wonder if they should be remaked to 3D. I mean, breath of Fire, Gunstar heroes and even Metroid received GAMEBOY ADVANCE 2D versions, and those kicked ass (go after emulators if you didn't played). Now, the surprise was really ZELDA: the minishing Cap, whose 2d GBA version was far more accepted than its 3D counterpart(The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker). Good games aren't about graphical technology, is something else.
Of course, the new megaman games are 3D and mimics platform games, witch i think it's cool. Why, i mention now the new STRIDER for the ARCADE - i didn't see a console version, but i would love to play one.
The thing is, Metroid Prime and Wind Waker were awesome games. Metroid Prime is probably the best Gamecube game released, but sometimes when I was playing Wind Waker, I would just look at the screen and realize that it is the closest a game has ever come to resembling a cartoon. The thing that a lot of people forget, is that video games are the most diverse form of entertainment. Not all games have to be about shooting people, or rescuing princesses. I would rather play a new Ratchet and Clank game than a new GTA. I don't understand when people put down games before they're even released, like they did with both the Gamecube games I mentioned. If people stopped being innovative and exploring more possibilities, gaming would become boring. There was a time that if I saw one more army game, I would kill someone. The market just gets so saturated with similar titles, and people just stop caring. If there weren't Shigeru Miyamotos, Hideo Kojimas, and Tim Schaffers in the world, we would be robbed of captivating entertainment. Some great unorthodox games?
~Psychonauts
~Katamari
~Metal Gear Series
~Fusion Frenzy
~Darwinia
~Super Smash Brothers
There are more than these, but there aren't many of them. You'll notice though, that the odd games are the ones people love and remember forever.
There is a game I have for SNES Emulator, I think it's called "Evo - Search for Eden". I kinda liked it. The idea has great potential and a 3D version would be quite popular I think.
I never did like metroid for the GC... I guess I don't have any taste. I thought it was pretty bad, I didn't get far into it, but it really didn't catch my attention. I found it strange, because I have played through lots of sci-fi games and liked them, but metroid didn't interest me.

EVO is awesome, and also made by Enix. I could never get very far in it though for some reason. The evolving into a human was a great idea, and you could even become a mermaid if you did the right things.

Me neither, and in fact, I never finished the game. But I remember renting the game all the time. I liked the beginning where you're a fish more than anything, and being a dinosaur is pretty cool.
Plus, the game teaches kids that creationism is silly and that evolution really happened. ;8
EDIT: That's a completely light-hearted statement, so don't start a whole debate now. :P
lol, Halo, I noticed that too. But I always found it odd that there was evolution and also an angel? I wanted to slap the game and tell it to make up its mind.
I wouldn't mind seeing Chrono Trigger modernized. That, or the two other SaGa games (Romancing SaGa 2-3).

I was directing the whole "don't start a debate" thing to everyone. <3
But to completely keep this post from being off-topic.... um... E.V.O. was awesome.
I think Will Wright should get together with Square-Enix and make a true sequel to Actraiser. I played that game so much when I was young, and I was really pumped when the second came out. Lo and behold, all the sim parts were removed.
Golden Axe
Medievil (already been done though, funnily enough)
Streets of Rage
And it's always been a want for me to be able to play a new side scrolling game like Sonic - but they went 3D. :(

Once again, GBA has a few new 2d sonic games.
Yeah, Actraiser 2 was lame. Actraiser 1 was way better.
I just thought of something, Axelay needs to be remade. That was a damn good game.
Alright, here's a blast from the past...
Does anyone remember an old commodore64 game called Project Firestart?
Scary game, decent graphics for it's time, and definately a game that be playable today with a makeover.
C64 = sex.
Remake Jumpman, H.E.R.O or the one where you are this ball that has to jump over holes, and the path is coloured looking and I think it's set in space (fuck what is it called? I want the rom of it now. Someone help please! :() Travelball? :( I can't member. Anyway - one of those three.
hmm...I think a good remake of super metroid with nice updated graphics but still a side scroller would be nice...
I want a new Rock 'n' Roll Racing! That is the one game that not one could beat me at!

I have the GBA, but it wasn;t a ramake, just a re-release. Except for the ability to save without using a code, the game is exactly the same.
I want a remake with better graphics, like an update.
