*eh hem*
Chobtis takes place in a futuristic society where there are computers that look like people, called "Persocoms". These computers have all the abilities of an average computer, but they can also talk, react, and act just like people, for the most part. Often, the only way to tell the difference is by their distinct "ears" where linking cables are often located. There are human-sized persocoms, which weigh a LOT (these would be "PCs), there are smaller persocoms you can carry in your hands (the laptops), and then there are really really tiny ones that don't often look like people, but more like some kind of abstract bunny-creature (these are equivalent to pocket PCs).
I've said too much though. You'll pretty much find all of this out during the series. What's important is the following:
Hideki Motosuwa is an average guy, who lived and worked on a farm most his life, (the farm wasn't shown in the manga) but moves to an apartment in the city to attend a prep school. He doesn't have much money, so unfortunately he can't afford a persocom. In fact, he can't afford many luxury items
at all, except porn magazines and DVDs, but he had to
borrow the DVD player.
"Chobits" are a kind of persocoms, thought to be an urban legend. These persocoms are special in that they don't learn by installing software or programing personality data, but simply by observing, as a regular human does. Perhaps they also feel human emotions. But they're just a rumor, right?
Eh heh heh. You'll have to watch the series to find out. It's got a decent amount of comedy, romance, a good story, and a good ending. However I must warn you, this anime/manga series has its fair share of ecchi scenes. I wouldn't call it "ecchi-tastic" but it's definitely NSFW.
