  • THE DANGER

    In thirty days, the kingdom of Caldonia will come to an end. A team is sent on a journey to investigate the findings of an old prophet that now sits atop of a serine mountain awaiting the end of days. He has translated parchments that say a volcano will erupt in the west of Caldonia that will be so powerful it will cover the entire island with lava and block the sun with its volcanic ash that will destroy all life on the planet.

    THE TEAM

    Narall the joy

    This young angel is the child of the god Ginath and a crime lord turned mayor named Cordelia Pellaera. After a life of trying to get into the skirts of the king's maidens he will be forced into active duty with his first mission to investigate a prophecy that is said to destroy the world.

    Surak the business

    The demon Halfling is all business and he has a strong sense of duty that will push him to accomplish any goal. He has been paired with an angel and later joined by a young girl. Eventually the cracks in Surak's proud character begin to show as he tires of fighting the negative stereotype of demons and longs to give in to temptation.

    Isarai the informative

    The animal loving grand daughter of an abusive prophet. After hearing that the world will end, she knows that she has to stop it, but not to save the world. She only wants to spite her grand father. At her side most of the time is her loveable dog named Fartsy.

    FEATURES

     - Rich story with memorable characters
     - Great mapping, not just from me, but other top VX mappers
     - Mutating dungeons that change the second time through
     - So far there are hours of game play (alpha testers have spent 4-7 hours one spent 12 hours), despite not having any enemy battles (yet)
     - Score system that keeps track of how much you have done in the game
     - Quest log, so you do not get confused
     - Two modes of play. The first follows the story, the other allows for free form exploration of anything and everything
     - Puzzles and plenty of them. Shutter doors that force you to complete a puzzle to advance, push rocks, switches, and things that are more out of the ordinary
     - Rewarded for exploration, even though this is still an alpha, there are plenty of cool things to find
     - Epic dungeons! Sure in the start of the game there are some easy dungeons / caves / mines, but as the game goes on, they get epic
     - Weather patterns, not that they matter or affect gameplay, but there are weather patterns for areas
     - Traps, yes there are traps, but you can see them, so it is your own fault if you step in them. There are no cheap traps that you MUST get hit by.
     - Day and night, with NPCs recognizing both with their greetings.
     - A lighthearted approach with humor. Sure there are serious things in the game, but not everything is deadly serious. Nor is this a comedy game or parody game.

    WHAT THE ALPHA VERSION DOES NOT CONTAIN
     - NO enemies. That is right, no enemies at all, because this is only the alpha.
     - Barely any NPCs. Like I said, it is an alpha. Many of the non important NPCs have pertinant information that they randomly tell you.
     - No classes, no character development. Just maps.

    WHAT THE ALPHA VERSION DOES CONTAIN
     - A whole lot of maps. More maps than you can shake a stick at!
     - You can play either "Play Test" that lets you go anywhere at any time
     - You can play "Follow the Path" that will guide you vaguely through the game.
     - Storyline goes halfway through the game, but you can still complete the game, there is just no dialog for the second half of the storyline. The quest log will then guide you.

    WHY YOU SHOULD PLAY
     - You are bored, you want to see what my first project in a year is.
     - You want to find bugs and laugh at them AND REPORT THEM.

    WHY YOU DO NOT WANT TO PLAY
     - It is an alpha. Not a beta, not a demo, this is an alpha.

  • Slightly confused as to what we are meant to be doing? Do we say the number and map that bit? Or do we make our own? Do we add events or not? Just a town or story too :?

  • Pick a number and map what the number is.
    Add events, you don't have to make your own story for each one, but that would be fun.

  • There is now a far better over world map for the game. It is one that is more challenging, and one that will remain secret. This new map structure will allow for a more linear path so that players do not get lost.

    I should mention that the game is complete except for any of the maps. There is a quest log that keeps track of quests. All of the quest dialog is written in .doc format.

    CHARACTERS

    ARAEV the ghost wizard

    Seen only by her living husband Orun, she is his spiritual guide with a vast knowledge of history. She often visits him only in dreams, but gives clues to her husband in his travels.

    MAJESTO the prophet

    Not so much a prophet as his race of people live the same life over and over again thousands of times. He has seen the volcanic eruption and the rise of Volcanus destroy the world over and over again.

    VOLCANUS the terrible

    An elemental demon that has risen from slumber after thousands of years to cleanse the world in fire. This horrifying terror takes sacrifices to appease his anger and postpone the annihilation of Caldonia.

    SCYDAE the guide

    The only person to make it to the peak of the volcano in Caldonia has been guiding parties for years. The last party that she escorted to the mouth of the volcano never returned and the dangerous investors of that party have sought this woman ever since.

    MATHON the king

    Good king Mathon has ruled his peaceful land with no real problems until now. In his spare time he studies languages of other races to become an even better leader. He is truly the leader of his people, because he will always rule by whatever will get their adoration.

    PELLAERO the mayor

    The mayor of the largest city in Caldonia has been called a thug and a crime lord by several people who now live in graves. He is a ruthless man that is not afraid to have his hands get dirty.

    DRAENIC the knight

    Mayor Pellaero's bodyguard is always at his side as an enforcer to the mayor's will. He is an emotionally scarred man who spends many nights in public watching plays of foreign wars.

    LEXARO the medicine man

    The unconventional Lexaro is known for his healing potions and eccentricity. He can be found in the port town in the southeast of Caldonia.

    ORICHAN the sage

    The wise and all knowing sage is the advisor to the king. Orichan has always been driven by her curiosity, but she always finds a way to shirk the king's work and becomes quite irritable by anyone that forces her to do so.

    NOASSIS the captain

    Captain of the guard, Noassis is ambitious and annoyed by unnecessary violence. While he is a great captain, he has not reported to his king in quite some time.

    SHIRY the kid

    This adventurous young boy hunts ghosts in his spare time. Armed with his sling, he and his fuzzy pet went out in search for the supernatural, but only his pet returned to the farm.

    LOUVELEN the bandit

    The lucky young leader of bandits has been entertaining her clan for years now. However, she rose to power after seducing and murdering the former leader. No one objected, because they were memorized.

  • You could add some other buildings in the catstle courtyard (or whomever has the time since it's community). Like a guardhouse, stables and servant's quarters.

    I may be old but at least I'm not like all those other old guys.

  • I have a brilliant way to speed things up in populated areas. Instead of having signs that say, to the east are shops, to the north is the inn... my idea is to have the signs instantly transport you where you would like to go. Brilliant?

    The shrine (13) contains an exiled necromancer who brings the dead to life. In this game, reviving the dead is outlawed. When a character in your party "dies," that character is merely "knocked out." Dead means you are bones. That is all I will say, why you will need to visit him will be up to your imagination.

    As for what you want the shrine to be, it is totally up to you. I am not even going to suggest ideas, because I want to work with what I have given.

    You can go ahead with your bastardly informative wizard that you must chase.

    I was worried about what I would do for the tunnel, so thanks for calling it :-)

    What I need now from people who don't want to map, but want to throw their two cents in.

    I NEED QUIRKY CLASSES

    I need quirky classes. I don't mean fighter, knight, mage, pilgrim and stuff. I mean boxer, cook, lumberjack, pyromancer, dancer, gambler, snake charmer, mentalist, professional eater and anything else that would be humorous or entertaining.

    Please submit your classes like this:

    (you do not need every element, just the elements that are not C)

    The maps are almost done. I'm only waiting on a few maps from people that they said they would do. Then I will add the events, townspeople, lighting effects and so on. There are already plenty of scripts and an existing database. The game will be done sooner than later.

  • After not having any events for weeks now, I decided today to connect all doors, passageways and exits. It was a few hours to make them cross over. Perhaps there are too many shops and towns or even floors to dungeon areas.

    The volcano so far looks incredible. I also did some color tests and uploaded them. All dungeons clearly look different. Even though some dungeons are 8 floors deep, and quite big, they still manage to have a unique look to every room.

    Hopefully this project can still get wrapped up by the end of the 30 days!

    After I get the volcano and link everything together, I can start adding more events.

  • Thank you MA. I would much rather have something good than quick :-)

    Speaking of good and quick. Grafikal gave in the volcano and it looks great :-) Someone else made 8 floors of a volcanic interior... combining the two, thus making a massive volcano. Oh yeah and someone else submit a teensy (but surprisingly great) boss cavern for a volcano.

    Now for the choice, to go from the interior up or the exterior down.

  • I have been gone a week. Since my week away, I have received all of the maps and I can finish up making the game.
