did you tru turning the AV off and running the patch, I have never seen an AV cause such a problem...maybe because I have used norton for only a few hours so I could'nt really know

AntiVirus: AVG Free Edition 7.5
Firewall: Windows' built-in firewall is just fine.
Browser: Mozilla Firefox. So secure it makes the AV and FW redundant really...
AntiSpyware: AVG Anti-Spyware

I have never, EVER had any problems on any computer using this setup.
