I think if we had any sense we'd put Saddam back on the throne and support him for the rest of his life with a yearly "allowance" on $10M or so. Let's face it: Iraq isn't a hotbed of democracy, and the government there will be washed away within five years of US withdrawal, regardless of when that is. Nobody's government really cares about the Kurds Saddam killed besides the Kurds themselves. I think a Saddam indebted to and supported by the US would be particularly effective in crushing Islamic fundamentalism in Iraq, which is something I want a lot more than a few boo-hooers getting revenge.
