This is Maia 2K7. It is not a sequel of the previous game, it is a new game that follows the same sort of free form gameplay. With this game it is not so much about the story, it is more about what YOU want to do. There are many things you can do, with repercussions to what you do.

COMPLETE features

1 continent, 1 mansion (not complete yet), 48 quests (10 main quests, 34 side quests, 4 random date quests, each can be done with 3 people), 9 puzzle rooms, 3 guilds, 1 village, 1 town, 1 port, 6 side areas (pond, north woods, well, cemetery, bridge, flower field), 1 shrine, 1 egg mine, 2 earth caves, 1 farm, 5 dreams.
- Free form game where you start off the game by selecting the character's classes. The real game only has it where you can select their look.
- Birth signs. When you select your character's look, class and assign the character's name you will also get to pick from one of 16 birth signs. The signs are broken into four catagories, strength, magic, stealth and diplomatic, each sign gives that character skills or improved stats to start the game with.
- Beastiary. Fight anything and it gets put into the Beastiary. The beastiary lists stats, weaknesses, strengths, what the enemy drops and so on.
- Traveling merchants! On the go there is a slight chance that you will run into a traveling merchant to save your hyde.
- Character Train! Lead your front character and watch the other ones follow!
- Ring menu. Just to be different, the menu is now in a circle shape ala Secret of Mana!
- Guild of Thieves. A series of more stealthy and clever quests to complete
- Lock Picking! Have a door that you need to get through? You can pick the lock if you have the right tools and know how! Each door is given a stat and if your tools are better than the door's stat then you can open the door and get through!
- Pick Pocketing. You can learn the talent to steal from NPCs. Your talent increases for successful steals. Each NPC has a stat from which they can be stolen from. If your stat is higher than theirs, then you can successfully steal from them! If you are not successful the bounty on your head increases!
- Puzzle hunting hints. There is a member of the guild of thieves that will give you hints on completing the puzzle rooms throughout the game.
- Class tomes. In order to change your classes you need them. There are also strange objects that can change a character's entire being!
- More alchemy and cooking combinations! New mixtures to learn.
- More spells, equipment and items!
- So far the game is 6 hours if you just breeze through it knowing where everything is and that is not even with all of the side quests.

Demo #2 features

- More types of quests, to switch up the gameplay. (Stealth quests, killing quests, surivival quests, timed quests, avoid the flames in a burning building, dates, puzzles, dance dance revolution, cooking, finding).
- Dating system. Far more advanced and fun than the original MAIA2K3. You are given a random quest with random consiquences. Pick flowers, pick mushrooms, dance and go out to eat. The NPC selects the flower you both will pick, what to eat, or where to go dance. Fail the date, keep her out too late, die or let her die, and it will cost you.
- Dance Dance! There was one Dance quest originally now there are random date quests that have dancing along with two places to dance. Keep up or get laughed at and maybe even fail the date.
- A more advanced cooking system with recipes.
- Learn a recipe, collect the ingreedients and make the food. You can also fry fish as you could in the first demo.
- Alchemy (it is quite useful). Like the recipes you are taught ways to make various things. You must have a meal grinder and a ceramic bowl at least as the basis to make things with.
- Escape scrolls. Fight a tough series of monsters and cannot run? Use escape scrolls (unless its a boss).
- Exit scrolls. Do not feel like walking out of somewhere? Just use an exit scroll!
- New Characters (see characters section of the post).
- So far the game is 2 hours if you just breeze through it knowing where everything is and that is not even with all of the side quests.

Demo #1 featured

- Day and night system with 7 periods of time and 24 hours accounted for
- A clock system keeps track of what period of time it is
- Advanced weather system. Each region has its own weather patterns.
- A dream system that takes the player to strange places. The system is based on who is in the party and what they have accomplished.
- There is a torch system incase night or a cave gets too dark to see.
- With Inns you do not just get to rent a room and get healed, you get to use the room and sleep there!
- Churches now serve a purpose. They can revive the dead!
- Disguises! This allows you to customize the main characters once you find the disguises in the third main quest.
- There are less customizable disguises like hiding in a tall box to avoid guards. They cannot kill you if they cannot find you.
- There is a DDR side quest that requires you to mirror the movements of your dance partner exactly as your partner does them.
- There are fishing games of chance where you use bait to catch fish. The bigger the bait, the greater the fish.
- Once you have caught the fish you can use a frying pan and a heat source to cook them into something that can be used to restore health and spell points (aside from the normal potions and herbs you can buy at item shops).
- There is a bounty system that is one of the key features. NPCs react to the level of bounty you have on your head.
- With the bounty, the player can either pay it off as a fine, go to prison or get attacked by the guards, depending on the level of the bounty.
- Murder of a citizen is a flat fine of 1000 gold. Murder of a guard is a flat 5000 gold. Murder of a noble or elected official is 100,000.
- Trabble (town random babble). Instead of hearing the same thing over and over from NPCs. It is randomized based on the area and job the NPC has.
- There is a guild system too with additional side quests.
- So far there are only two guilds. Guild of Fighters and Guild of Mages.
- Outside of using the guilds for side quests they have their benefits of members only shops and sleeping quarters.
- Aside from the main quest there are side quests that do not pertain to the guilds.
- Then aside from side quests there are puzzle rooms to complete for fun and treasure!
- So far the game is 80 minutes if you just breeze through it knowing where everything is.

There are still dreams... and nightmares based on the heros in the party and events that have happened.

You can feed the chickens or slaughter them. There are various farms.

I have reuploaded a new version. The jail sprite was caused by I never intended the dream to appear until you got another character. The game is fixed, no more hell sprite, but I am sure it looked cool. There is now a statement about the 0 damage. I thought the final guard at the end of the prison was too easy if everyone had a weapon.

Oh and yes this is a remake with a lot of differences in gameplay, quests, progress and various other things.

Hmmm new since the last upload.

A more advanced cooking system with recipes.
More clothes to wear.
More quests.
More types of quests, to switch up the gameplay.
Alchemy (it is quite useful).
More puzzles.
More places.
New characters (two new playable characters)

I am almost 2 hours into the game, and I have not completed every quest yet. I have added to it in such a way that no one will ever have to restart the game, they can just get a new demo once I upload it. Even the things I fixed like puzzle tallies I forgot to put in. I have fixes that will still work with new demos of the game.

i thought that i would give this a serious try, because it is a downloadable game with a lot of information and screen shots. i also remembered your old game.

with your other game I read that many people felt that it was a lot like Morrowind. i suppose that is true, but this version of your game i think is more like grand theft auto. not in the way that you can drive and kill pedestrians, but how various people you meet you are given quest after quest to do, and with each quest it builds on a story of that person. ei. meeting rajah in the mage's guild he gives you tasks that lead up to you learning alchemy. He has a storyline  that progresses, while in morrowind there is no real storyline. in your game you get to see your anna archer blossom into love for one of the main characters of the game based on your doing tasks with her.

it was enjoyable playing it, so much that i played it for four hours over a span of four days. after four hours of playing i think i have a good enough grasp of the game to fully understand what you are doing. i can see that you are trying to incorperate a lot of elements of rpgs into one single game. ei: you have side rooms in the caves that remind me of zelda how the player would need to complete a puzzle to advance or for a treasure. i like that your puzzles are not one dimensional rock pushers. also very zelda like is you earn talents that you can use to affect things, like the plant slice lets you cut down bushes and flowers to pick them.

you also have a major overhead map for towns, just as dragon warrior would have, it makes everything seem so populated and like there is a lot to do (the backlash is it gets SLOW in towns). i think thanks to your trabble it makes the NPCs seem a lot more fleshed out and much better to speak with them, because they comment on the time of day, the weather and the quests!

now for the bad:
i cannot imagine alchemy, cooking and fishing being that useful in the game unless they are needed to complete the quests. i would sacrifice your weather, day, night and time system to make the towns run smoother, considering you are in the towns a good amount of time. many of the dungeons are not maze like enough.

i would love to see you finish this game, which is why i've posted this lengthily review

It is good someone played it past 10 minutes. There should be a new completed version up soon. As completed versions go that will be it, the game will be done, due to the lack of responses. I am working on different endings. I still need to make the guild of thieves quests too. Otherwise the main quest is done.

i doubt lost played all of the mage quests. if he had he would realize alchemy is exceedingly useful. fishing iand cooking are only useful if there are no towns to buy items at. In the second chapter (if I chose to make it), there will be no towns, just wilderness where you will be forced to cook fish.

As for why alchemy is exceedingly useful it is like the "secrets system." You learn to make things that are useful on the go, like if you mix 10 potions you get a quill. This was mostly for my use as a tester. I would get stuck somewhere and NEED a quill to save my game, cause I had not saved it for 30 minutes. When you search random objects you can get a lot of potions there is a rare chance you can find a quill. So mix 10 potions get a quill. Save your game at a ledger.

If you mix a spear with 4 bungler's bain you get a poison tipped spear. if you mix a hunter's bow with 4 bungler's bain you get a hunter's bow with poison tipped arrows. Maybe that is in only in the final version I forget. However you must learn how to make those things before you can make them.

from what he said, and i will play this when i have time (as a semi-fan of the 2k3 version), it sounds like you just need to add some polish and adjust some things. Maybe you could incorporate fishing and alchemy as a way to get ultimate weapons?

i doubt lost played all of the mage quests. if he had he would realize alchemy is exceedingly useful. fishing iand cooking are only useful if there are no towns to buy items at. In the second chapter (if I chose to make it), there will be no towns, just wilderness where you will be forced to cook fish.

i stand corrected, but i have completed all of the mage guild quests. there is a quest where you find bungler's bane (is it bane or bain?), but not where you make poison tipped weapons.

It is bane. I just bungled my own spelling. It is not 100% RTP. There is a custom overworld map set. There are custom animations too, but other than that everything is RTP. I feel RTP is the best period, even if it is default.

I have defeated the game and climbed the tower. I think the game can be defeated in maybe 3 hours at a bare minimum. Now I am just running through the other quests, the side quests, the mage and fighters quests. I started doing the guild of thives quests.

I have also made the lockpick system. I put in little quirks here and there for fun off the wallness, like what happens when you consume a large mass of jelly. With alchemy you can combine 10 jellys for a jelly jar, then you can combine 10 jelly jars to get the large mass of jelly. You can also buy jelly jars to make things far easier to make the large mass of jelly.

There will also be a free play version of the game that you can chose when you start. That will not follow the main Maia storyline.

Right after the first fight in the game with the guard I got an error "unitialized constant - bestiary" or something like that when I tried to talk to the character just south of where the guard was.

Game looks good so far though!

i noticed something else the date quests with anna archer... there are supposed to be 4 right? there is only one for me, going out somewhere to eat. is there any specific purpose to dating?

That guy was my attempt to integrate Blizard's Beastiary. It did not work as there was no text, along with the fact that it crashed saved games whenever there was a monster attack.

I fixed that, and I fixed the dating thing. I added a few more quests along with someone new to date. I have added the lock pick and pick pockets system. I have also added the treasure hunt quests that lead to puzzles.

There is a ton of news, but to keep it digestable, I will release a bit here and a bit there. This update pertains mostly to new screenshots.

I have added yet another new person to date (making a total of 3), and fixed a few bugs with the date system. Everything now runs perfectly with the dating system.

All of the quests for the mages and thieves are complete and tested. I still have 3 more quests to put in for the fighters out there. There is a very nice storyline there that progresses over the quests. In fact all of the guild quests tie in with the much bigger main quest, because it is all a series of events that leads to the major event that happens near the end of the game.

I will be done with this in a few days. I still have more news, some of which will be here.

I am done making / testing all of the guild quests, Fighters, Mages and Thieves. There is now a free form version of the game where you start off the game by selecting the classes of your characters and you play a different main quest than the actual Maia quest. However you can still find your way to Maia's quest in the free form version of the game, just like Maia can find her way to the NON free form main quest of the game!

There is now a choice of 16 birth signs you can chose from to give to your characters. This will affect their skills and stats right off the bat to send your characters on a different path.

I only have to add endings to the game. Multiple endings that is. 12 different endings. However it is less you beat the game and see a different ending according to how you play it is 12 parts of the ending. When you beat the game there is still THE ENDING, but for each extra part it is a detail to further the ending. Each part of the ending is what happens to a main character in the story. Such as if you want to find out what happens to Fire Eyes, you need to complete all of the fighter's guild quests. If you want to find out what happens between Anna Archer and Morgan, you need to have a great standing with her by the ending of the game to see her ending.

There are now 48 quests. There are more spells, more playable characters and still there is more news, but I am saving it. It is bigger news :-)

I am currently testing everything and knowing where everything is I am five and a half hours into the game and that is all on one continent.
