Party Member Recruitment

Let me first start out by saying that I am new, now that that's out of the way.......
I know that this is a "noobish" question, but not the most significantly noobish question if you want to compare.
Alright, let's say that I want to begin the game with one character, and then recruit party members. I have the recruitment down and everything, yet I don't know how to make it so I can actually have someone join my party. It seems that I always start off with one character, if I set the minimum that way, if not then I always end up with the characters already in my party -the ones don't want to recruit until later on in the story. I just can't seem to think of what to do, and I searched for "party recruitment" related topics, but to my avail, found none that aided my request. Sorry for the noobish question, I hope that I don't start some anger due to such a simple matter, it appears that we are all intelligent people here......some more than others........

I am currently using XP, but will soon be using 2003....

Haha. I have to. I am using a trial version of XP, and have already ordered 2003 for fairly cheap.

make an event,and make the command change party(person you want) add.

also you need to use switchs to make sure you can't keep adding him  :wink:  (if you need help with switchs i'll help you)
