2k:translation kinda sucks

Did you know that 90% of people who use RM like 2k's battle system best and hate 2k3's because it's so buggy.

There tends to be a bug in 2k3 projects that totally screws up he battle system and has no cure.

Also normal expectations for an XP game require at least 5 totally custom systems powered by scripts. AND THESE MUST BE 100% COMPLETED BY YOU.

That's the message I got from EVERY ****ING SITE OTHER THAN THIS ONE.

And 2K's battle system can get annoying once you run out of monsters in 1st person veiw.

RM2K:The first one i ever got.. i hate it
RM2K3:i love the battle system but its to hard to get the battle spirts and a bitch to make them aswell and way to many bugs..
RMXP:the best one on pc.. i love this one over all of them..

lets hope they make a 3D one next. like the ones on PS2.

I agree mostly with the above, but I don't understand why people keep saying rm2k3 sprites are hard to find?

Rm2k/3 sprites are interchangeable!
Not to mention If you go on any search engine and type 'rm2k3 resources' and click one of the top few sites, you find some HUNDREDS of rm2k/3 sprites!
I just got done downloading more then 50!
DUH!
Anyway, rmxp just feels... empty, and a little strange.
I luv the interface, but somthing about rm2k3 games is just overall....nicer.
I'm not quite sure why, but I've heard other eople say the same thing.

95: Never used
2000: Decent was great till 2003 came out with side scrolling battles
2003: Awesome!!. It is the best. Graphics are easy to find. Or you can make your own. Only issue is the font and enter hero name (still trying to find patches :evil: ).
XP: It was very weird and strange when i tried it. I only liked the battle sprites (which i import into 2003 for awesome pics

RPG Maker (psx): This was the first RPG Maker i used. It was great to make my own RPGs but the limited sprites was annoying. Then i found RPG Maker on the comp. Lots of sprites

RPG Maker 2 (ps2): Looks awesome however the events are done backwards and are really confusing to an experienced RPG Maker fan. Great for people how dont have a clue

i have tried to make custom battle sprites
i made one but he was easy because i just enlarged the character sprite.
rm2k3 sprites are easy too find just not the battle sprites.
and i agree with gyroman about rm2k3 just feeling "nicer"

2k3: okay, i like the battle system and such, even though i never really learned how to make good 2k3 sprites so i never really got into it

xp: the best for many reasons in my person al opinion. for me, mainly its because the characters can be whatever size you want them to be. Also, I like the graphips alot more. the default battle system i DONT like, but thats just because i cant make custom battlers 'anime style'. as a remedy to the aforementioned problem, xp has scripting!(cheers)so, in addition to being able to fix the BS...lol bs... you can do tons of other cool stuff! ...xp...

i wasn't saying that the scripting wasn't good. Oh no. I was saying I didn't like the system it's self. Most of them had extrymly hard to do graphics. Others just werent exactly side-scrolling. They were awesome battle systems just not what i wanted. Anywho I'm not sure where i found it. I think it was in a post on that rmxp.net (or whatever it was) about deleted scripts. I try to find a link.

2K3, undoubtedly. Expands upon everything built in 2K (and thus a lot of the resources like facesets and such transfer VERY easily) and I love the feel a side-view battle gives to the game. IMO it's much more exciting to control and view a fight from the sidelines and see the actions and movements of EVERY participant, rather than seeing through the eyes of one side and never being able to see your heroes' animations, or what have you. In first person mode, you lose some excitement, I think.

Also, I find XP's database to be very confining when compared to 2K3's database. Particularly in the skill and status effect areas, and items. In 2K3 I could really tweak skills and status effects to create some really oddball combinations and give a bright, vivid variety to the abilities in the game, rather than just cookie cutter nukes and junk. There's a lot of user-unfriendly features that require you to script a lot more than enterbrain likes to advertise in XP, and frankly, if I wanted to dig into code, I would open up MS Visual C++, because quite frankly if you're going to code for the sake of customization, you may as well do it from scratch and be able to further customize things like character stat types, encounter types (maybe you want to make a game like Seiken Densetsu 3), and what have you. When I open up an RPG Maker program, it's because I want to ESCAPE code, not do what I already do most of the time anyway (also I do it for the graphics and sound resources, but you get the picture).

XP hands down. my favorite makers are the ones you can just pick up and let the story just flow out of you. XP's the first one in a long time. it's got that natural feel that guarantees i'll be a fan.

I like the graphics of RpgXP the best (cause they are the best

). I really like the simplicity of Rpg2000 cause the chipsets fit together nicely. Rpg2003, uh isn't it exactly like 2000 except for a bit different chips and battle animation.

Rpg 2000, you can make almost anything (you have many different ground and water chips, etc.), Rpg XP is sort of limited to doing stuff with cliffs (1 water chip per set :| ).

For Rpg XP you make cool looking, maybe even professional looking games, but the downside is, the stacking chips gets to be a pain, esp if they have that white around the edges.

BTW, I started Rpg Maker this year, my grade 8 Computer class teaches Rpg 2k and Rpg XP. lol

I only used Xp. I'm still learning with it, but this thing has a real mild learning curve compared to the Map Maker for Warcraft3... Or at least I thought so. Maybe it's not fair to compare these things. But I think RPXP has been easy to learn... Although Still I don't know how to script. I wonder if I can make Soul Refrain 2 about 10 hours long without the need to script. hmmmm....
