Regardless I'm glad Mother 3 introduced the music rhythm combo system. It made things even more interesting. I think the best turn based battle systems incorporate some degree of real time execution.
I haven't ever played Mother 3 but that sounds pretty cool. Kinda like timed attacks from Mario & Luigi games but not really.
Yeah. It's interesting because the difficulty of comboing is determined by how rhythmically complex the battle music is. The hardest is probably
this boss music which is in 29/32. There's also
this song which is entirely based around an accelerando. One of the characters also has
a move that reveals the combo rhythm.
Unfortunately, it's not synced well when played on an emulator, so it's harder than it should be for most people who play the game. To experience it without sync issues, you have to either buy the Japanese version (the only official version) or play the English translated version on a flash cart.
But the Mother 4 fan game seems to be retaining this combo system, which should be nice.
