NES Zelda style?

I'm looking for a stable and simple script to use map based monsters and battle sprites. I've tried Mr. Mos but found it grew unstable quickly and had no support. I'm not looking for something super complex and prefer 1st person single person party, rather than the mess of an adventuring group - which would turn it into a complex tactics mess.
