It was a dark night in the town of Holden, the air clear, and still. The only light, coming from the crescent smile in the sky, was beaming down on the village, dimly illuminating its soft, yet irregular features. The town was almost asleep, with only but a couple families still awake in their houses, and no one on the streets but the town guard... Atleast, that's what it would appear to any onlooker that would have been watching from the nearby hills. One shadowy figure was stalking through the town, looking for the mark he had been assigned to.

He was obviously no amature at his trade, as his footsteps made no sound, and left no mark.  He made his way toward the house on the edge of the town, where his target waited, unknowing as to the fate that would soon befall them. He stoped suddenly. The figure reaches his target. Pressed up against the mixture of stone and wood, he peered through the nearby window to plan his entry... And his escape.

It was a small family. A loving mother, A hardworking father, and a small daughter, no more then a decade old, standing cute in her tiny sundress. "Mommy, mommy!" The daughter cried, "Can I have another slice of spice cake?". "No! You'll spoil yourself before bed!", The mother said in response. The hunter soon noticed a small opening in the roof of the little house, perhaps where a chimany was supposed to be built, but the funds of the family could not yet afford. It was perfect. The hole was just big enough to slink through, and the light had not yet caressed it with its loving embrace.

He climbed up the side of the house quickly, the only sound made from the dagger in his belt brushing up against the soft, leather-hide pants he wore. He was careful not to step too heavily on the straw roof, as he didn't want to expose his intentions to anyone perceptive enough to notice the small indents that his feet were making.

It was time. The clock had struck midnight for the family in this tiny hut.

The killer drew his blade, like a serpent bearing his fangs before the moment he strikes... In the same swift moment that he slinked through the opening in the roof, he kicked the middle-aged man out of his chair and drew his blade fatally across his throat. There was a blood curddling scream behind him as the poor wife witnessed the ruthless murder of her beloved husband, soon muffled, however, by the gurgling of her own blood. She had just enough time left to look down at the knife that was expertly placed between her ribs, and to look back at her daughter with cold, unfeeling eyes.

"Hey! What was that sound!?" The assailant heard from outside the hut. He had been discovered. But it was too late, the deed had already been done. The contract that was placed on this happy family had been carried out to the key... The only missing detail was the silent escape that was supposed to accompany the silent entrance. There was no time to retrieve his dagger from the woman. The man burst out the window like a caged bird finally released, and made good his escape.

The girl was all alone... Her father lie on the ground face down, died before he knew what was happening. Atleast his was peaceful. The mother, dropped on the floor like a discarded doll, layed lifeless on the floor, with a still warm hand reaching toward where her daughter stood. They weren't the cleanest kills, as blood splattered from the womans mouth, and from the slit in the mans neck. But there she stood, a blood soaked stuffed bear in hand. Too shocked to cry, she slowly walked over to the corpse of her mother, and just as slowly she reacheed down and grasped her hand. She had never cried so heavily in her short life.

The girl wraped her fingers around the hilt of the knife. She yanked it free, with some difficulty, as she stumbled backward slightly. Blood dripped off the knife, down to the floor... Down to her blood soaked feet. She stared silently at the knife. The small child has finally stopped crying. As she held her bear in one hand, and the knife in the other, the girl opened the front door and set off into the vast, open world, determined to find the killer that ruined her life so young, and get revenge for his sins.
