If you ever read it (congrats for not being a quitter lol) then you KNOW that this trailer seems like a damn spoof. Everything about it sucks. It's so heavy-handed, looks like it might as well be saying IN A WORLD WHERE..., and it's so forceful and fast-paced which is SO frustrating when you think about the contrast between just this trailer and even a few pages of the book. I'm not a huge fan of book-to-film adaptations, but generally I'll be like, "Hey yeah I'll give this a shot it could turn out okay"  I have to say I have very little to no interest in seeing this buttpile RAGERAGERAGERAGE.

Is there a film adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse 5"? I'd like to see how they'd pull that off...

As far as this film goes, I'll try it. I did not like the book, simply beacause of the capatalist elitism that I saw as the main theme. While I did agree with the indepentdant feminist principles, I saw a whole lot of demonising of socialism and lionising of capitalism- even in high school I was for the protection of society through collective effort and thus found the thrust of the book objectionable, although given the time in which the book was written I suppose it was just a sign of the times.

I wil say this: even though I didn't like the concept, I was unable to disregard it. That is the definition of art; you don't have to like it but you can't dismiss it.

Also, I can totally disregard Ayn Rand. All of her novels are just thinly-veiled propaganda for her extremist beliefs. She sucks at writing stories.

No argument there, bud, at least for this work. I can't say about the other three. However, were the subject different, I may have enjoyed the story; I don't dislike her writing style.

I wonder how successful the film will be? The book is like, #33 on the NYT all-time best seller list or something like that, but with the failing faith in capitalism it will be interesting to see the movie's reception... assuming there are enough people in the world left to see it as the socio-economic commentary it is, which I sadly doubt.

You can't tell me that The Fountainhead wasn't a great story (especially if you skip most of Roark's long speech at the end )

I'll agree that I didn't like Atlas Shrugged that much (I still did a little, can't lie), but it absolutely kills me that people can take something that meant so much to someone in their life and then completely shit all over it with more than just opinions.

I can't tell if this movie is seriously being made because they thought it would make a good movie (dooooon't think it will) or because they know they'll be able to push out a couple thousand "Who Is John Galt?" t-shirts.

I have shared my opinion on Rand, and will hereby no longer comment on this thread other than to say this: Read more Vonnegut.

Get this: In the Vonnegut novel "Jailbird", the foreward mentions a John Figler. I taught one of his ex-GF's Iai-do at one time. Four degrees of separation.
