Okay, how about some anecdotal evidence? I know, hearsay, but I saw this unfold before my very eyes.
When I first jioned RMRK, I was at the Burns Harbor plant of Mittal Steel, working fire/EMS. One of our guys, "Roy", was an Ironclad, card-carrying homophobe. I never knew so much hate speech could come from someone who was so active in his community and church. When we got our permanent shift dispatcher, who was openly gay, Roy damn near quit on the spot. He always used a lot of "f" words when Paul was around...
We were also on the local VFD, so we had several occasions to mingle with our families. His son was always kinda withdrawn, but I figured it had to do with him being a smaller kid; not the kind of son a proud, macho fireman would want. He seemed to love the kid, though, so I never gave it a second's thought.
Turns out that Mr. "I hate faggots" had not only been seeing numerous men on the side (who also were known in the fire service as homophobes) but he'd aslo been raping his son for the past 14 years.
So, while the research IS old, and the experiment not conducted as cleanly as it should have been, it fits in with a behavioral pattern that I have seen before. Good enough for me.
