For now, the search form in the top right of the page still uses google, but if you click the search link in the menu, you'll see that RMRK's search is now alive and kicking again.

I'm looking for your help in testing this, so please, try doing some searching and report back your experience. Was it fast? (You can use the Page created in... at the bottom to judge)

Did you get the results you were expecting? If you know of some really obscure word or phrase that you know exists on RMRK, try searching for it.

Works fast, at least, my one little search I did for you did. Got all the results I wanted, nice yellow-high lighted words, I like it!

For nerds, RMRK no longer uses SMF's built in search index or even MySQL's fulltext search engine. Now it's running sphinx, and it's incredible.

I just can't get over how fast sphinx is. It indexed all of RMRK in about 5 seconds. 5 seconds! And search for something like "face". It will retrive one thousand results, but still do it in under 0.1 seconds (the bulk of the time is spent by SMF itself, validating your session and generating your page etc).

The only thing I've ever found lacking in a search engine is the ability to search for three, or even two, letter words. Finding things like "ABS" and such or finding old threads where you know the term ZL was mentioned is tricky :>

A few advanced search modifiers:

roph -irock - Find results that mention me, but exclude any of those results that mention irock

roph +irock - Find results that mention me, and include only those results that mention irock

roph irock|nouman Find results that mention me and include results that mention either nouman or irock, but not both.

"Curse you Roph! Curse yoooooou!" - And of course, the phrase search

Very nice. Make it TONS easier for members to find that rare script they were looking for but just can't seem to find in the midst of all those topics.

Or for guests to look up porn.
