Makes you wonder why lots of people visit the site but dont contribute or participate. Are they just the kinds of people who don't do that, or are certain other (ahem) kinds of people driving them away?

That's the thing about lurkers, nobody really knows.  I attribute it to a burst of interest in RPG maker being short-lived, and dying out before the member could really contribute.

This is pretty true.  Most of the larger communities have this same type of stuff.  In fact, I can't think of one that doesn't, unless its a small community where the only members left are really just a small handful of friends keeping the place alive as much as they can.
