Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Legends have told about mysterious floating cities that hovered and flew through the sky using an ancient and mysterious power. In this day and age, they are known as legend, a fairytale, or a myth. Even still those with hearts full of greed, have searched for years for the personal gain, and power that Laputa would offer. Are the mysteries about the floating cities real? It's time for an adventure.

Opening Scene (Unfinished, visual fixes, changes, and tweaks will up done before demo)

This is being rapidly developed with a 2 man team (help heavily from a third when needed) This is an  original story mostly, based on the folklore about the floating cities, and of course the movie (where the title come from). Please leave any comments about the project (yes, the style is based on the RTP style, but there will be a lot of custom graphics) and yes we know about the graphics errors in the opening, and have fixed them since. A video will be uploaded when possible.

>tsk< I find funny the fact that "La puta" means "The whore" in spanish :E

I just can't take it seriously xD

kdb424

Honestly I didn't know that until about 3 weeks after I started development on this. I know what you mean XD

This is awesome, it's a great movie and a really cool story to base a game on. I think with the right time put into it you could have a really solid game. I also thought sky pirates would be a cool idea and this is right up the alley. My one concern with rtp is the graphics not being available to you to really take advantage of the floating island aspect. Your first clip is great by the way. I really hope you pursue this and keep up the good work. Good luck!

I would have thought this would have been easier in RMXP what the tilesets and panoramas and such. Oh well, best of luck!

Milespleasant

Looking pretty good and like Stereo said, it'd be easier in XP or VX. Scripts :D

kdb424

As for the RTP, this is not at all restricted to that. We do have an artist, and most of what he has done this far has been about seamless. I just wanted to make something RTP style, as it had that oldschool look I desired. As for being easier in RMXP or RMVX, I am sure it would be a little easier in some aspects, but mapping can be done just the same with a few tricks I have. Scripts aren't really needed, though I plan on doing my next game in XP for that reason. It'll end up amazing none the less.

Hey KDB, I'm certain you fixed this already, but in the opening scene you spelled "Neckless" instead of "necklace" unless you were meant to spell neckless, which is unlikely since it isn't a word in the English language.

kdb424

haha, yes actually, we have fixed this. Thank you for that, we tend to have bad spelling in our English department, though we do get that looked over. It'll be fixed in the demo whenever our alpha testers are finished checking everything over.

I love rtp styled games because if you're creative you can surprise everyone, so I'm just hoping you take full advantage of that and don't limit yourselves, but you said that's your plan, so best of luck. I understand not choosing XP for this because anyone who knows how to code the 2k/2k3 styles has more options graphically available to them that it actually makes pulling off the complicated things easier. I prefer coding something through forks and variables over actually typing the script any day. Very excited for the demo - let us know.

Hey if you need anything just ask.

IAMFORTE

good luck to you : ) this movie was the defining moment of my childhood, so if you mess it up. . .  there will be consequences *cracks knuckles*

We plan on making this a fun adventure for lovers of the movie, and those that have never heard of it. It will dive deep outside of the movie (to make it a more full and rich adventure) and we plan to change some aspects to fit a game better. However, all characters and places should feel as if they fit themselves well, even when not accurate (again, to make it a more fun game, not a movie that you play). Development has slowed since I (the lead developer) and the lead artist are now working jobs, though it is still going, and will be finished. Check http://kdb424.homelinux.com/kdb424/Projects/Laputa/ for updates, the twitter feed, and development screenshots live as we add them :D
