I've been wondering has anyone created or done something to extend the use of tiles a - e for vx lets say adding lots of more graphics and what not like a ultimate tile...

I do not believe it is possible to change the graphic dimensions, but there are a few scripts designed to be able to change what sets you can use depending on the map. You'd still be limited to the number of tiles in a-e, but you could customize them specifically to each area you're working on.
SwapXT is the newest and cleanest running one, able to change passabilities and tiles with ease, with no errors occurring for it in-game (that I've noticed anyway.)

Watch the youtube tutorial a couple times. I completely failed on using it my first time too...

Where I failed is: When the program asks you to save the game before swapping out, close the program at that time and then proceed. It will reload the program and everything will be properly swapped as you set it in the XT program.

It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's really not all that hard... ultimately it's like importing a new tileset and setting passabilities for each map you're swapping.
