Besides the new iPhone tethering option, AT&T also announced that they have changed the iPad 3G data plan for new customers after June 7th.

At present, AT&T offers a no-contract $29.99/month unlimited data plan specifically for iPad owners. If you activate your data plan before June 7th, you can still participate in this plan. After June 7th, however, AT&T will be replacing that plan with a $25/month 2GB limited plan. From the press release:

For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.
So, if this is an issue for you, you still have time to be grandfathered into the unlimited data plan. Existing iPad customers can look at their current data usage via their iPad settings.

It was several months ago when Steve Jobs stood on stage and announced the iPad and noted the unlimited data plan. It was around one month ago when the iPad 3G launched, driving iPad sales to over 2 million. In 5 days, the unlimited data plan will become a 2GB data plan. This is total bait and switch for anyone who bought the iPad 3G thinking there would be an unlimited data plan. For existing unlimited data customers, the second they cancel their non-contract plan, they can never get the plan back. This is a huge dick move on AT&T's part, and Apple's if they even knew about it.

I personally never planned on getting the iPad 3G though.

Could possibly be a deciding factor on whether or not State regulated institutions (i.e. public schools) adopt this technology or not. Obviously such institutions would have a higher data cap, but I wonder how affordable it would be even considering this. Unless, of course, they have special data plans for such cases, like variable caps and prices. Don't really care either way. Never really did like AT&T.

Why would schools use 3G iPads?

Why would schools use 3G iPads?
Forgive my stupidity, I got so caught up in reading and failed to realize the cap was only for the 3G's and not the regular iPads lacking cellphone capabilities. Still a bitch move on AT&T's part, though.
