Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has asked Cuba's Fidel Castro and Bolivian leader Evo Morales to join him in using the social networking site Twitter.

Mr Chavez urged Mr Morales and Mr Castro, two of his most vocal allies in anti-American sentiment, to adopt the site while on a visit to Bolivia.

Mr Chavez has attracted 120,000 followers to his chavezcandanga account in three days.

Venezuela saw a big rise in the number of people using Twitter last year.

Previously critical of social networking sites, Mr Chavez has now suggested he is excited by the potential of Twitter and views it as a way to combat critics of his government.

"I invite Evo and Fidel," Mr Chavez said. "Evo, are you on Twitter? Let's invite Evo to Twitter."

He went on: "The potential this has. It's not capitalist, it's not socialist, it depends on how it is used."

Awesome.
