[Visual] Fliers for my Recital

Moss.

So my composition recital is in 1 month, and I made some fliers this week.

The two separate ones (8.5 x 11) I like as they are, but as for the combined one (17 x 11)... I'm not sure if I like the text smaller or larger.
In the large flier, in the version where the text is smaller, the text is actually 100% identical in size compared to the two separate fliers, and being moderately OCD the continuity really appeals to me.
But, obviously, this makes for some extra and unused space...
...and larger text = more eye-grabbing and easier to read.

BUT AGAIN, with smaller text, I can add more information, which I think the combined flier kind of needs. Like the two separate fliers are bookends, or teasers, making the large flier a bigger revelation. Like, I could add more information like a track listing, or, I dunno, SOMETHING.

(Though I suppose I could add more info with the larger text one, too)

But anyway, what do you guys think? Opinions? Critiques? Suggestions? Want to attend? Anything?

(Also, don't be confused by the images I put up, they're hastily-taken snap-shots and obviously not fully sized, or properly cropped for that matter.)

I'll come. I'll bring a bunch of friends, too.

I like the first one and the last one.

I'd like to attend, but I can't attend. ;9

Moss.

I added some color to the gears, and I think it made a big difference.

edit: I should color that large gear in the trees, in the combi posters, huh?

Hm, I feel overly drawn to the gears now and not drawn to the text.

I think the text needs spicing up. Maybe try changing the color in the header.

EDIT: I'm not really a fan of the red text. ;9

Moss.

I suppose that's true enough, but it's not like people won't be able to stop and take a closer look at these fliers. The fact that the gears attract so much attention is a good thing, I think, and once people get distracted by the gears they'll be like "what else is on this piece of paper?"

But yes, the text does need something more.

yes.

fliers are made to convey a message clearly. i think it's great that the gears, or really anything, on a flier stands out so much that a person would need to look at it. obviously, eyes see one thing first but eyes are never static and absolutely will see the text especially considering the text is a headline.

i think it's fine either way with the larger text or the smaller text. the text is still going to be very big once you get to printing full size comps, they always are lol.

You should record your recital =o

Also, all of the fliers look great, but I think I like the one with larger text, simply because it seems fuller. However, that could just be because there's no extra information added to the one with smaller text yet.

Yes! I would love to hear it too.

Moss.

I went with the larger one. I also added two smaller gears to the trees, and a vine in the gears, but only on the full size poster.

I also titled all of them

"Organic to Synthetic (larger font)

A Senior Composition Recital
Presented by Ryan Leber (medium font)

Date/Time/Place (smaller font)"

The whole recital has a theme at this point, my pieces moving from natural pieces (like orchestral) to mechanical pieces (like TimeStep, or stuff I made in Logic).
I even have an intro and outro theme. The intro theme plays with soft piano and nature sounds without any meter, and with a lot of outdoor reverb, the outro theme plays the same musical material, but with authentic SNES sounds, and with prime numbers. Like 2/4 3/4 2/4 3/4 5/4 2/4 3/4 5/4 7/4, etc.

I'll try to get it recorded, though with a lot of it being audio/video playback, it wouldn't be very good. Though there ARE a few video pieces that I actually get up and interact with, on stage. A little bit, anyway. Like one is actually a videogame I'm going to make, and then score, and then play live. The other one has me interacting with the projector screen like it's a surface of water.

I will share all the material online once it's over, though, so you can still see all of it. :)

I love the combi ones. But yes, I agree with SirJackRex, the fliers have too many spaces. Perhaps you should move the trees and the gears closer, and have more attractive text. :)

I wish I could come. Good luck, anyway.

god Arl that whole idea just sounds so cool ._.

I would go :D... but it's an 8 1/2 hour trip from where I live ;_;. The last time I drove that long I was trying to get from Eastern NC to Western NC... not saying anything, but I ended up in Tennessee :V lol.

This sounds amazing and I love the premise behind it. Good luck! :3
