Dragon Age: Origins Codex System
24/1/10>

Summary
In Dragon Age: Origins, the world is so large, and there is so much background material, that instead of just letting the player know this randomly, over the course of the game, the player will get codex pages, with background information on pretty much anything, from ruins, to history, to a race like elves, to cities, to dogs, even.
These codex pages can then be viewed in a scene, where they are categorized under stuff like "Races", "Creatures", "History", and so on. You can open and close categories, and when you select a codex page (the number and name is only visible when the page has been found btw) the screen moves to the left, and on the right opens a new window (maybe sliding out from underneath the first?) where you can read the page.
Design: It doesn't have to slide to the left of the screen etc., that was just my mad thoughts. Still, I'd like it to have the split-screen layout if possible, but if not, then I'll still love u and the script ;)

Codex pages should be addable by script call, and not items, since that would require like 200+ items just in codex pages :\

Also, I wouldn't mind it if I had to write the codex pages in a .txt document for example, I'm thinking it might shorten the script and make it easier to customize (for both scripter and moi)
Features Desired
  • A costum codex scene
  • Windows prefered, but if it's too complicated (if they are, im afraid of letting you do this..), then a picture is fine too :P
  • Codex pages are numbered
  • Easy creation of codex-pages
  • Gain codex-pages through simple script call

Mockups
Spoiler for:

This is the left-hand side of the scene, where all the categories are closed. The icons at the top, are just there because in Dragon Age, the codex is combined with a few other scenes like the quest log. I don't want those icons, or I obviously would've asked for it :P
Spoiler for:

That's the right-hand side of the screen, featuring background information on dual wielding.
Spoiler for:

I didn't actually check what this one said, but it's also the right hand side of the codex.

Instead of boxes with a number in each, I want a list (should be easier for everyone too :P) with the Codex page title.

Games its been in
  • Dragon Age: Origins

Did you search?
Yes

Where did you search?

Hmm, well this isn't what you're looking for, but it might be a suitable alternative: http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,35059.0.html

However, it doesn't have any categorization like you want.

As for the request itself, it's quite detailed but I wouldn't mind seeing how you intend the controls for it to translate into a scene without a mouse. Also, do you want the picture backgrounds or would you be fine with a window?

Also, you didn't screenshot what the pages look like when you open one of the categories, in case someone was wondering. Would you want it to open and still have the other categories listed or would you want the categories to disappear altogether and just have those entries, keeping in mind that you will need to be able to navigate the scene without a mouse.

Eternally bloody...
about the screenshots, i searched for a good 20 mins, couldn't find anything. I guess I could always take on myself of the game, but the loading time in dragon age is horrible :\

Also, categories aren't that important, they're mostly for the player :P

I would actually prefer windows, since the rest of my game uses windows for every scene, but I could live with a picture.

I'll edit first post (I knew I forgot something...), and I'll have a screenshot up in 24 hours at most
