Help making a door/charset

I need help making a door, and a locked door that can be unlocked with an item. Also I need a walkthrough for making my own charsets, right now theyre keeping the background color. Please help the 2k3 tutorial doesn't help a whole lot under xp when you're new to both.

I made a tutorial about opening a door with a boulder. Which have been deleted
I've added a chest which gives you a key, and made the door work with the key. You can find the example at:

Darn that thread no longer exsists... and your donload link has also gone....

I know how to get items from a chest and so on... I just want to know how to make it Open, in an animation...?

I have tried adding a custom movement path... its a pain in the arse... I turned off the repeat function but it still repeats... the ,moveemnt is not triggered by a player Action key... I am confussed... either I am regressing back to a Newb... or its too late and I need coffee...

More to the point I need Help !!! LOL

I just want to know how to make a chest open when you press the action key next to it, it animates... waits a sec then gives you an item... or changes into a monster CHEST and attacks you...

(I know how to make it attack you, and to give an item... its just the animate bit I am stuck on !!!)

I have done it in a round about way...

Set two event pages... on page one set a still chest event, when you go to open it it says OPen Chest, Yes or NO ?

You go Yes... it activates a Switch Chest open, Event page two triggered by Switch chest open, On the event movement defibne custom and make it turn left right up... and then in the event window increase item by one or transform or Launch battle...

But that means I will have to make a switch for every chest... and I can't be asked...!!!

So is there an easy way... there always is... but I don't know it... please Help ?

You do need to "make a switch" for every chest. To animate, on the first page after you choose to open, as you said, left, right, up, then have it give you whatever or attack you, then turn on the switch. On the second page have the image as the chest open, or if you want it to dissapear nothing. Unless you have a message display of what happens, you might want to add a wait command after the animation, to make sure it shows the animation before turning on the switch.

I found another way...  :D

Place two events next to each other one will be the trigger and the other will be the Anim... Its all done with Local Switches...

Left event - page one (The trigger)

Left event - page Two (The Trigger)


Right event - page one (The Anim)

Right Event - page two (The Anim)

Just like GilgameshRO said.But it is more conventional for you to just use local switches with chests.Instead of making a switch for every chest you have,just use a local switch operation in everyone.Remember local switches are only for the event in wich they are used.So you can have 5000 chests in the same map,all of them turning on local switch A,and they won't interfere with each other.
EDIT:LOL,looks like we both posted at the same time.Ok,you found it out by yourself.But you know,you could have done all that with just one event right?

Yep but I only want the chest to open if your at the front of it...

If you save the images to your computer then preview them you can just make out the Eventing if you zoom in a few time... (It could just be the my Monitor is form the 80's and the resolution sucks)  :shock:

It was fairly easy once I had some coffee...LOL

Right... 1am... Gunna go asleep me thinks.... My Gme is looking great now !!!

You can't have 5000 chests in the same map as you maximum can have 999 events in the same map.
It looks like you solved the problem yourself, which is nice, but I've uploaded the file again anyway. Check it if you want.

Lol,i said 5000 just as an example.I dont think anyone would put that many chests in a map.I was just trying to point out that local switches dont ineterfere with other events.But anyway,i didnt know the max events for any map was 999.Always good to learn something new  :wink:
