Yea, it's unfortunate :(

I'm thinking of a way to split huge maps into smaller sections, and check the Hero's X Y location to see if he's gone past a certain point, and then just show the next portion of the map.

The only problem with that is getting the cursor position in the right place.

Not so hard if you use modular division.
