Demo of Crystal Series 2: Water

Story: This story driven game picks up where the original Crystal game left off. The cunning Crystal Thieves return to wreak havoc and destruction among the world.

Demo length:

Difficulty:
 easy

This sequel will have better maps than the first as the creator is studying tutorials and practicing maps on an empty canvas. The final game will be completed with beautiful maps luxary to the eyes.

I'm curious as to what you even learned from the mapping tutorial? You should really look up Leventhan's mapping tutorial for VX on this site. I can tell you now though, from the screenshots at least, that the tutorial didn't help too much. Actually I think your first screenshot is the best mapped of the 3, only because you tried going into using more than one layer of cliff faces. However for it to be successful, you'd have to use side shadows to separate the tops of the next higher layer of cliffs. Your second screenshot is annoying because you're using the WorldMap Grass autotile instead of the actual grass autotile. That's why there's a dirt and harsh border around your path. That path isn't even an autotile either. You should get into using the autotiles more and actual tiles less. They're used on special occasions or where needed. Your last screenshot is upsetting. Isn't it PAINFULLY obvious that you're using the wrong bridge tiles? I mean... there's the one right next to it facing the other direction for horizontal bridges and stuff. Also, I see that you have began to use the normal grass autotile there, but it's really weird when you use the tile grass over top of it. Also, I cannot figure out for the life of me what is going on with those waterfalls?? I don't even know. I'm not going to try and analyze that. lol. Oh well. I've always been a fan of sorts for those small chibi typed houses anyways.

Where did you take the tutorial? I think that I know what tutorial you're talking about. Take grafikal's advice :-)

Okay, I'll take Leventhan's tutorial. But actually TRY the demo before you knock on the game! I've never minded bad graphics/mapping as long as the game is good... not to say this is an amazing game or anything, but I think it's worth a try.

I would imagine if you don't have the skill or the patience to take the time to make a good map, it's not too farfetched to say it's probably going to be a bad game.

Anski... wouldn't have been one of my posts without you knocking on it, too. And yeah, it is too farfetched. The worst mapper in the world could have the best game with an incredible storyline. So, just because of mapping, don't assume a game is bad.

Your right, it could, but not one of your games.

I did try it, and it is still unbearably bland.

So, fuck you, read tutorials until your eyes bleed and try again when things don't look so bad and you can focus on a project for more than a week.

First of all: Yes, I am right! It feels good to have you admit that.  :P

Second, they really don't look that bad. I highly doubt that bad mapping could hurt an average homosexual male such as yourself.

Thirdly, did you even play the first? It wouldn't be as "bland" if you did.

Lastly, I have been focusing on the project for over a week. There was a first, as mentioned above.

So, that's about it...

gloating, check, insult, check, key points, check... yep, that's it.

Does it matter if I've played the first?

No.

I was looking at gameplay, not story, bud.

I need everyone to stop using this::
Code: [Select]
:blizj:
Stop it. Stop it. Except Anski.

Also, Fuzzdog, your game is not good. I did not even play it to have to determine this at all. It doesn't matter if your story is good or not. What makes a good game is the combination of many things that do include story. I would easily say that there is an EXTREMELY more large population of people who would play/judge a game based off its graphics. I tell you now, I've been spamming my life with Oblivion the past few days and I barely know what the fuck is happening in that game. I just like playing it so I can walk around and look at all the pretty trees and shit. I am far more interested in how things look than how well they fit into a storyline, unless it's something retarded like a spaceship landing on some random medieval planet (Unless it's a Star Ocean game). I do believe that you need to read tutorials until your eyes bleed, or at least play many many many other VX games that don't have terrible mapping.

My maps are better than yours. You're a dumbshit. You're game is bad, your mapping sucks, games are comprised of many components which most of you fail at, I play Oblivion a lot, Star Ocean yay, and read tutorials until your eyes bleed.

This is the worst. I'm not even going to qualify that by adding "game" or "thing I've ever played." It's just the worst.

So..yeah..even -if- your story was amazing, here's a lesson in basic human nature: Humans are visual, not cerebral. This is why World of Warcraft has so many subscribers and money and MUDs and MUCKs are free and have a tiny following. WOW has a shit story for the most part, it's just there to drive gameplay, I've seen MUDs with stories that could fill novels.

Also..damn man..learn how to actually full a project POST. This is minuscule.

This is not a game, this is an episode of how not to map.

Let me teach you how to map :-) You will become my project and I will make you better and more talented.

1. Let's make a village 40 x 40.

2. Paint it all green using the green grass tile NEXT to the bushy grass tile.

3. Use the shallow water tile (first tile in A) to make a stream or a river through the center of it.

4. Now design houses 4 tiles wide by 4 tiles tall. Square simple houses using the red roof and the tile beneath of it for the walls. Put up 4 buildings (1 shop, 1 inn, 1 pub, 1 whatever). Make sure the buildings have consistant sizes and make sure they aren't giant sky scrapers.

5. Now make paths connecting them all. Use whatever tile you want

6. Now make an outline / border of the town using fences or trees if you want.

7. Now put bridges across the stream / river

8. Now make details like dirt and sand.

9. Now add trees and bushes.

10. Now add details like flowers, crops, signs, mailboxes.

11. Add some people! :-)

There, easy! My next post will be how to EASILY make good caves.
