The monitor
I linked is almost $300 cheaper (you don't want to get the ultra cheapest, it will be utter shit), has all the connections (VGA / DVI / HDMI), has a built in USB hub and even has a webcam on it so you can pretend you're on an imac.
That HP monitor has 400CD/m2 brightness, this one has 450. They both have the same contrast ratio. The HP one is 6ms grey to grey and 12ms for a full opposite shift, the ASUS simply says 2ms, but even if it's the easiest g2g, 2ms is good.
Idiot.
Good tier: Dell / Viewsonic / Samsung
Ok tier: Acer / ASUS / LG / HP / Hanns G
Shit tier: The rest
And you don't need a IPS panel, a TN one will do you fine.
