There are so many people out there that are obsessed with Death Metal and think that there is actual musical talent to them and creative meaning behind the lyrics...I don't know why...and I don't want anyone to take offense but REALLLY?

Discuss why Death Metal is good or bad.

I like very little death metal, and in fact what little I do like isn't really true death metal. But I'm not about to start another genre debate...

Mainly posting to say it does take talent, in some cases anyway. It's not easy to play incredibly fast and it takes a lot of strength to do it for that long. So there is musical talent, to a degree, but no you wouldn't use a death metal band as examples of a high level of musicianship and musicality.

On the other hand, it's all a matter of opinion. I personally hate Jimmy Eat World, which you have a quote of in your sig. I'd laugh at you if you tried to tell me they were good musicians. It's all opinion. And then there's the large fact that the majority of people don't listen to pop, metal, hip-hop, punk or any sub genre of those or any sub genre of those sub genres for it's musical quality. People listen to that group, which I often just refer to simply as Mainstream, just to be entertained. A lot of people don't mind the predictable chord progressions and mediocre singing. They just want a tune they can whistle.

tl;dr Yeah, death metal isn't that great.

I see what you mean, some people just want something thats either fast pace or catchy or whatever, a lot of Jimmy Eat World songs are catchy or predictable(Sometimes I wanna hear something upbeat or at least positive even if it is catchy or predictable, but some of their songs have more meaning behind them ie; "Clarity" and "Futures" and I can tell the difference...With that said though, I can't tell the difference between something that could have talent or creativity with Death metal or anything like it because it IMO all sounds the same...yeah it must take energy and stamina to play that type of music but if someone listens to the song and has to look at the booklet to know the lyrics, then what is the point?

I want someone who has listened to more Death Metal or other types of music like it to explain why they think it is good and how they think it is talent or creative.

I don't necessarily choose "death metal" as a type of music that I normally listen to, but I'm sure that if I found a band that I liked in the genre, it would inspire me to look for more similar artists. I'm not really a fan of bands that tend to be one-trick ponies, and a lot of death metal that I've heard is very similar. It mostly involves downtuned guitars chugging on power chords, blast beats, and a person growling in a low register. That's just not my type of thing. Now, there are bands that I listen to such as He Is Legend that borrow small attributes from death metal, and incorporate them into their own style, and they're one of my favorite bands. I just want to reiterate that I only know what I've heard of death metal, and that isn't really that much.

I unlocked it, I just assumed that since nobody had really posted in a long while that I would lock it but I think I was wrong
So unlocked it shall stay...

I guess angry death metal could be enjoyable to listen to if your skateboarding and the music is off in the distance...

Random note/question:  Out of plain curiosity what is it like at a concert like that?

You're listening too much into modern death metal -- no better example of real death metal than the original:

BUT before you listen you need to drop the Satan 666 look at Death metal people mistake it for (Black Metal focuses on this). Death metal is just a style, fast playing with heavy lyrics (both in the sound and actual words)

Spoiler for My Favorite song ever - About Life support:

Quote
Memories is all thats left behind
As I lay and wait to die
Little do they know
That I hear their choice of life

End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - why dont you

Pull the plug
Let me pass away
Pull the plug
Dont wanna live this way

Once I had full control of my life
I now behold a machine decides my fate
End it now its all too late
What has now been days, it seems like years
To stay like this is what I fear
Life ends so fast, so take your chance
And make it last

End it now, it is the only way
Too cruel, that is what they say
Release me from this lonely world
There is no hope - why dont you

Pull the plug
Let me pass away
Pull the plug
Dont wanna live this way

Spoiler for Second favorite song ever. Bolded a verse I think is unbelievably cool. (sing along and you'll see):

Quote
Deep in your mind there is another side
A morbid truth one cannot hide
Unimaginable gore was your past time high
To hear people scream, to watch them die

Return back to the burial site
Face your dreams upon this night
Severed limbs not far away
Spirit past you now obey

Images of the forgotten past
Your first life revealed at last
Now you'll find to your surprise
All the corpses you left behind

A place you feel you've been to before
Where life would turn right into gore
You dig deep down through the years of decay
The truth is revealed, you found your way

Return back to the burial site
Face your dreams upon this night
Severed limbs not far away
Spirit past you now obey

Images of the forgotten past
Your first life revealed at last
Now you'll find to your surprise
All the corpses you left behind

Spoiler for Just Lyrics (my favorite) - Leprosy:
Quote
Bodies deformed way beyond belief
Cast out from their concerned society
Flesh contorting day after day
Freak of the dark world is what the people say

Their lives decay before their eyes
There is no hope of cure
Among their own kind they live
A life thats so obscure
First an arm and then a leg
Deterioration grows
Rotting while they breathe - death comes slow

Leprosy will take control and bring you to your death
No chance of a normal life to live just like the rest
Leprosy will spread with time, your body soon to change
Appearance becomes hideous a sight too much to take

Tuberculoid the most severe
Decay of the nerves comes fast
Sense of feeling soon to be gone
Life will never last

No hope of recovery after the nerves are eaten away
Damage is done you feel no more pain
Bones decay deterioration grows
Origin of this horrid disease nobody knows

Their lives decay before their eyes
There is no hope of cure
Among their own kind they live
A life thats so obscure
First an arm and then a leg
Deterioration grows
Rotting while they breathe - death comes slow

Leprosy will take control and bring you to your death
No chance of a normal life to live just like the rest
Leprosy will spread with time, your body soon to change
Appearance becomes hideous a sight too much to take

Only thing I like even remotely to 'angry death metal' is Between the Buried and Me, and they're not really angry or death and occasionally not metal. ._. (at least not so much on their album 'Colors')

BTBAM is ok, but they get old kind of fast.

Yeah. I seem to like parts of songs rather than whole songs. And for that, they do get old faster since I don't really like having to wait through parts of songs to get to good parts of songs. The songs I posted just before are the songs that I enjoy the most. I have all of their albums and I think 'Colors' is the best.

I like melodic death metal. Doom and gloom sound so much better when its not "rawr rawr rawr"ed out. My ex use to listen to obscure death metal. I was amazed that someone that dressed like a librarian could be into such heavy stuff.
