[Resolved]Bugged-out Controls?

Hello,

I'm fairly new to the RPG Maker XP scene, and I was making a fine "Tales of" fan RPG that had roughly 6 hours worth of gameplay material, until just now. I've encountered one doozy of a bug that I can't get around or fix by myself this time.

When I began a playtest to try out new features & materials (such as music and Summoning), the moment to game window came up, the highlighter box jumped straight up to New Game without me touching the controls. I didn't really notice until the on-screen character began moving up, only stopping when an obstacle gets in the way. Up and Left arrow keys are unresponsive. Right arrow key turns the character left and starts walking again, ignoring all controls (except Esc.) And finally, Down arrow also turns left. All this is without the influence of a Move Event.

While in the Menu, the highlighter box jumps up one by itself. Up arrow key is unresponsive, but Down is fine.

I know it sounds similar to one other topic, but this is different. I did take the advice from that topic, but this problem remained and even followed outside of Playtesting as well, but is confined only in this game, and anything else produced by RPG Maker XP (or so it seems from my understanding).

I'm more than halfway complete with the game, and I'm not in the mood to be stopped this easily. But I'm at a loss since reinstalling failed. Any help in solving this problem will be much appreciated. Thank you~

Yeah, I've seen this problem a number of times, and so far the only thing I know to fix it is re-installing RMXP. Be sure to backup your files.

KitMishima

Unfortunately, I already tried as I said in the post before. The problem remained. I made a new project, it has the problem too. I tried the game outside of playtest, and it's there as well. The backed-up file has the problem too.

Or maybe... No... If I did uninstall and reinstall properly, then the new project would've been fine... Or would it?

Do you have a gamepad plugged into your computer? If so, try unplugging it and then starting the game.

KitMishima

Uh? *Sees a upside-down gamepad* ... I'll give it a try.

And...

It works~ Thanks a lot, Holk~

Wow... It was such a simple solution to the point of embarassment. Really, thanks alot~ :)

It's all good. The same thing happened to me with Oblivion, so don't feel bad.
