Hi folks,

Xell's my Name and I am new here... So hi.

Now let's get to the topic: I'm making a Game with the rm2k3 and I've got a question about animating.
The point is, is it possible to animate the attacks from the enemies just like the Hero's animations?
I've searched for this topic, but I couldn't find the right one. Besides, this is my first forum, so please don't be too rude if there's a similar topic.
Thank you for any comment.

There's no way to animate the monsters.
But there may be a way. But i'm 99% sure there isn't

Honestly, there is only one way i can think of doing this, and it would involve making several different monsters(frames) for every animated monster you want to create, and alot of fuck annoying eventing, so what you're looking for will most likely be a lagging pain in the ass, but possible.

A lighter alternative to this, you might say? Oh well i suppose i have two ways of doing this ._.

If you've ever heard of Romancing Walker, It's probably one of the best 2k RPGs out there. Not the best, but still worth a look. Let's take a page out of that book: 2k does not have a side view system like 2k3, it has a front on system. Characters were not represented on the screen at all, with the exception of a name with health attached to it. The creator of RW obviously did not like this, so they went ahead and created their own special battleanimation set for the attacks: the screen would darken, a picture of the hero would appear, they'd blow the enemy up and then everyone would be happy. so theoretically, you could do a similar thing with your monsters. If you do this, you should probably only make these for special attacks, or have your characters attack in the same way, else the flow could get real slow.

If you cannot visualize what i'm talking about, go google Romancing Walker (The english translation) download it and then see for yourself .-.

Thank you for your kind answers.
Now I'm wondering whether there's any tutorial about animating with those events.  :o
If there is one, could you please post the link in here? That'd be great. :D

You can animate monsters in rm2k3 but only if they do a move.
I have to find my zip file about it though, ask Cherry he originally submitted it. *points at stickies for USer* oh wait this might be easier:

Or download Sacred Earth: Bonds~~

No, you can animate the monsters.

I found this handy trick.

Basically, if you want a dragon to animate it's arms and tail you, first of all, get the dragon image. Then using Paint, Photoshop etc trim its arms and tail off the picture and save it as another complete file. So you should have a:
- Dragon's body, head and legs (one file)
- Dragon's arms (another file)
- Dragon's tail (another file)

Import these three files into RPGM2K3, and create their HP, MP according to what you originally had planned. So if the dragon had 5000HP, because there is three files, divide it by 3. So the arms and tail would have 1500HP, leaving the last picture with 200HP.

And this is how you animate it...select the "Flying" part for each monster part. This way, they float up and down, as if they are moving.

When you create a Monster Group, simply move the parts together until they form one shape again!

The disadvantage is that the player can select the hands, tail and Dragon to attack (if that's not what you wanted).

ha, I do this all the time, it looks so cool, it's more realistic and cheeky. =P
