((This is my first project. So, please give me some advice, comments, or something. But be gentle. ^^; ))

 Plot.
Spoiler for:

Necromancy is the focus of this game. More specifically, the art of reviving the dead through dark arts.

Unlike in most games, the hero is not some 14-18 year old kid, master swordsman from a hidden village that comes to save the world, oh no. In this game, in the opening scene, you see an elderly mage, walking a long path in a realm where all magick was formed. Nox. Nox is the home all the elements at their purest form, and so, the energy they give off is very intense, making any magic users ability more than tripled.  The elderly man in the opening, is in fact, the hero's father. He has come to Nox to perform the forbidden art of necromancy, in an attempt to revive his deceased son. That's right. The hero is already dead.

Now revived, the player takes control of their...hero... - Anyone can guess, that only the body of anything could be reanimated. The soul can not be retrieved. So what does this mean for the hero? Well...you will just have to find out as you embark on an adventure of self discovery.

A walking corpse, a man without a past, without a soul. Does he have a future? I assure you, he does...One of laughter, tears, self discovery, and sacrifice.

Characters-

Spoiler for:
Dalas: The hero of the game, revived at the game's opening. Watch his story unfold.

Emile: A young light-hearted mage. Dalas' first companion. She finds him wandering about near her home. Being the studious one that she is, she finds him strange and decides to tag along with him on his seemingly destination-less journey to learn more of who, and what he is.

((More to come.))

 FAQ -

Spoiler for:
Why are you using all RTP?: Because I am far from an artist, and I am unable to create anything custom. I am trying to learn, and if I do, I will use custom graphics. (Accepting aid. PM or email if interested.)

((More to come.))

I am currently accepting any and all help anyone may feel they want to offer. Give me feedback, or help with the project itself. All is welcome and appreciated. All will be credited.

To be honest, I am actually rather impressed, that for a new person to rpg makers, you havn't gone for the old fashioned, cliche plots.

The plot you do have seems to be very interesting, and I look forward to seeing how it unfolds. I hope you can pull it off and create an enjoyable game because of it.

As for the RTP, I've never minded it. If you can learn what your doing, it's plain old simple and nice to use. Obviously, the odd non-RTP thing does make the player go 'oo-er' (In a good way!) but you worry about that after you have got better at more important stuff, like mapping, creating a good story and eventing. It could be useful for you to insert some scripts from the scripts database that you find interesting however, as the base interface (especially for the battles) can be boring for some. Again, you shouldn't need to worry much about these till later in the development.

To do with help I can offer; I am good at Eventing and pretty damn good at mapping :P . If you would like help in these areas, don't hesitate to ask. I won't be making the maps for you as such, just showing you what to do to get the map you desire (If you get what I mean..!).

I hope your project goes well,
~Darico

Thanks so much for the response.

Yeah, I am a big believer in the whole "put up, or shut up" saying. I can think back on many occasions when I have played games, and thought. "Tch. This is just the same old thing. I could do better." Well! Here I am, giving it a shot.

Would you mind, telling me what it is that catches your eye, in this project?

As for your help, that would be greatly appreciated. I am not a good mapper, and I think my eventing is sloppy - But I am trying my best, and learning quickly (I think.)

 Also, do you have any messenger programs which I can IM you in? I am multi-tasking, and that would make things much easier on me. If you don't mind sharing, that is. ^^;

Of course, my msn is on my profile so go ahead and add me and I'll help in any way I can. Although I am also busy with an increasing amount of other projects to do with rpg makers so I may not be the quickest at getting back to you with whatever it is you require.

What catches my eye? From what you have already told us, it would have to be the plot. Like I have already said, this plot is different to the norm and may take some masterful story telling to pull it off. Let's hope you are up to it. Also, I believe it will be interesting to watch the relationship between the two characters evolve. Again, this can go wrong if you can't pull it off!

Eventing is rather quick to pick up, but sometimes takes awhile to master. As for mapping in general I would direct you to the tutorials on mapping so you can try to implement what they suggest. It may be a good idea to make a very short game before this one to test your skills after looking around at what other people have done. If you do this it should mean that during this game the mapping doesn't suddenly (and noticably) improve, along with other such details. The short game doesn't have to be anything special, and I'll leave it up to you to decide what to do.

I've been writing/story telling on the upside of eight years now, so I am hoping that grants me the experience needed to pull the story off.

As for the mapping, I am working on it, doing my best. I will check out the mapping posts, to see what I can learn. I want to make this to the best of my ability, as long as this is a single man's work project. =D

Am I still cool?
Emile is a boy's name, but nice try.  ::)

I've heard the storyline used almost exactly in just one other game:
Record of Lodoss War on the Sega Dreamcast
in which the main character is dead and is revived, soulless, and goes on a quest with his resurrector (savior?) and discovers that he was once the general of some great evil army and stuff, but is resurrected as a good guy!

If that is your full plot, then stop stealing.
If not (which is what I expect), then good luck. I like not having generic main character dude as the main character.

That's probably a factor I should change in my game (which everyone should check out!).

Ah. I spelled it Emile, though I don't pronounce it that way. I pronounce it Emily - But I thought that appeared to generic. Guess I'll just find a new spelling then....XD

Really? Never owned a dreamcast, nor played that game. As for the other stuff you mentioned - I can't tell you, but I can, however, assure you that the story doesn't follow what you just told me. Matter of fact - It stopped sounding similar to me at about...questing with his "resurrector (savior?)"

Though I am a little disheartened at the simularities - I am proud, and comforted in the fact that this game is not taking that path you mentioned, and is in fact, taking an entirely different approach. No worries.

 Thanks for your response.
