How much are fully custom resources for XP worth?

I've been wondering something for a while, but what are professional RPG Maker resources actually worth? Most people usually go out and use resources already available or are able to make their own resources, but what would new, custom, professional resources be worth (in monitary value)?

For example, I've always thought a good spriteset made specifically for one person would be worth around $3-5 depending on the quality. However, I've seen some artists try to sell theirs for $20+, and other artists to do it for free just for the challenge of making it.

So, what would/should you pay for the basic RPG Maker resources? For the sake of this discussion, we'll narrow the basics down to battlers, sprites, and tilesets, which is the bare minimum you need for a RMXP game.

Depends on the sprites creation. If it is from a pre-made template it will cost less, but if it is from scratch then the sprite will probably cost more. An example would be a human sprite than will cost less than a fully custom monster sprite. Also depends on the quality, the details they add. The more details the higher I think it will cost. That's all I can give you.

Some sprites take hours of works, so $3-$5 is kind of like $1/$1.50 per hour, which isn't very much. Some spriters take less time, but then they are very experienced and you're paying for quality. I'd say probably anywhere between $10.00 and $15.00 is reasonable for a sprite, depending on how much work needs to be done. If it's only an edit, then maybe $3 or so.

But it depends on who's making them, really, and the level of professionalism. Think about it this way: minimum wage is like $8.00 an hour where I am from, and if a spriter is a professional I think that they have the right to charge more than that. Of course, it takes less time. If the spriter is an amateur he shouldn't charge as much per hour, but he/she will probably take longer.

It really does depend a lot on who the artist is, how much detail they put into it, etc...

I'd say probably this:

Sprite: $10 - $15
Battler: $25 - $35
Tileset: $50 - $80

Also, think about this - I think maia made a post where she had contacted a company to ask how much it would cost to get all the resources done for a game, and their response was about $5000.

If $2400 of that were devoted to tilesets, $1400 to battlers and $1200 to Sprites, then by my highest estimates you'd get:

30 tilesets
40 Battlers
80 Sprites

And that would be about enough for a full game. That's professional though.

In the end though, I really don't know ~ I'm not an artist at all, and so I can't really say how much is totally reasonable. But if I was serious enough about getting Custom Resources and I wasn't poor and though it a waste of money, that's the price range I'd think the person I get was entitled to.

There's always someone willing to do it for free and, well, as you said lots of people are poor and not interested in buying :3

I think what MA said is right on spot though. Sounds very reasonable.

Especially the tilesets. A tileset for $80 is definitely wort buying.
Be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Where would you even go to purchase a tileset?

It was for RPG Maker XP graphics. I think 100 battlers, 100 sprites and 25 tilesets. The company had done graphics for a lot of 2D games including Drawn 2 Life. I think that was the name of it, some RPG where you could either draw or use default images for your GB DS. They had also done a lot of phone games.
