Hello, all, I was wondering: do any of these gaming programs (RPGMXP, RM2K3, etc.) allow you to create a game whose play field (not the battlefield) is not in isometric view? Since I'm going to take the time to try to learn how to use these things, I figure I'd best make certain that these programs can do what I want. If at all possible, I'd like to try and implement a 2D platforming element, which is something I've yet to see anyone do or make mention of (then again, I could have simply missed it- these forums are quite large).
 I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, it's so close, oh so close! The next one in December, maybe? Perhaps so...more than that, you say? Do tell!

Tarranon, if you want to do a side scroller then your best bet is Game Maker- and I'm the man to talk to. PM me any time if you need help getting started.

Ah. Many thanks for the prompt response. Before I get any further, I should probably mention that the entire game will not be a side-scroller- just dungeons and certain other areas. If it's possible to combine the two elements, then by all means, I'll eagerly look forward to any advice you might have to give me.
Just didn't wanna get your hopes up unnecessarily...

Nonono, that's fine. :3 I'm actually trying to make my first RPG in Game Maker...like right at this very second I'm programming the menu items. If I were to work with you on that it would be a mutual learning experience, and a fresh eye in that sort of thing is a real boon. I'd love to help.

Pm me if you are seriously considering this, and I'll give you my MSN. :3

Just so you know, before jumping into Game Maker. Nothing is premade. You even have to set up the movement of the character.
So to make an RPG would take many hours of coding and whatnot.

But on the other hand, since there is nothing there. You can make almost anything with game maker. You can make web browsers and other programs that don't have to be games. Some people have even made FPS's in it.

So if you just want to make a simple RPG then the best program to use would be RPG maker.

I'm always for learning new things. I may be a little slow at it, but it's worth a try, at least. If Game Maker really does have nothing pre-made, then I suppose my rudimentary drawing skills might come in handy for something...
