Lately, I've been more annoyed by the new generation of people. I think they are getting worse everyday. I mean, just yesterday, I heard an 8 year old screaming "Stupid whore kid" to another youngster in the middle of the townsquare in the local town, and a 5 year old saying fuck off to his mother.

What is the reasons for this to happen? Is it the new generation of parents that can't raise their children?( Im not trying to offend any of the new generation parents on this site). Is it the media, or is it anything else? Discuss.

I don't usually curse ('cept here), but it pisses me off the way the new generation acts. I don't care if technically I'm considered a part of it, as far as I'm concerned, I'm a later part of an earlier generation.

My sister is the perfect brat. I don't say this just because she's my sister, but she really is. She doesn't value anything, she thinks it's funny that the only thing she cares about is herself, and she'll ignore her best friend just to get at me (of course, I'm pretty much an impenetrable fortress *unless you talk about my father*).

Her class (she's in the fifth grade) is completely knowledgeable in all of the sexual *arts*. Her friends' quote on one of her online profiles is "Let's make love!"

This would be fine if they were older, I mean, heck, I'm 16 and I'm sure the things I talk about with my friends would make a sailor blush, but there's freaking fifth graders getting pregnant.

PREGNANT.

There are states arguing over whether or not they should allow free contraception for freaking elementary school CHILDREN.

*is done ranting*

Who's to blame? It's the entire country. We've let ourselves become accustomed to immoral things, and slowly it gets worse until nobody cares anymore and we've become a country of whores and thieves.

I'd like to use the frog example. Put a frog in boiling water, and it will jump out. Put a frog in lukewarm water, and slowly add heat; and the frog will stay in until it boils to death.

i blame the internet, and school. actually, 99% school, .00000009% internet. My friend do the funniest things(but inappropriate) and nothing happen to us.Most staff don't care actually they laugh at it. They wouldn't say that unless they learned it. Internet is a mass chaotic web with all kinds of porn on every corner.  I put in runescape in and got porn before. A kid in my class put in "underwater" and got porn. Not against porn, but if a kid saw that they would want to try that.

The latest generation is terrible, I agree. It's really hard to point fingers at another person and tell them to take the blame though. Sure, you could probably blame the parents and so but I really do think the biggest cause of this horribleability is the modern media. Films have ratings for a reason, kids! And games, too. And the internet doesn't make things better. And I shouldn't post in ED.

It's screwy how people complain about the way kids are growing up and stuff so soon and kids getting pregnant... my problem with this is that society pushes adulthood onto kids (especially girls) at a young age by having swimsuit competitions for adolescents and encouraging them to dress like whores.  I saw on CNN yesterday where a girl went to her prom basically dressed in a rag and she had the audacity to COMPLAIN when they wouldn't let her in.  The girl looked like a hooker!  How could she be surprised when she wasn't let in??  It wasn't even something I'd wear to the beach to go swimming in.  She said "they didn't give me a choice, go home or go to jail"... she should've gone home when they told her she wasn't allowed in instead of staying to bitch over it.  Girls are actively encouraged to look, act like, and dress like whores to get attention these days and I just have absolutely no tolerance for it.  If you want to be treated with respect like a person, act like a person that has some respect for themselves and cover up in public, please.

Another problem is that nobody gets a good spanking anymore.  You know what my mom would've done to me at 5 years old if I'd told her to fuck off?  She would've beaten my ass, taken all my toys from me indefinitely, and I would be very, VERY sorry that I'd ever learned to say that.  But, most parents who hear things like this these days just give their kids a slap on the wrist or a "time-out" and that does NOT get the point across.  Now, I'll say that not all methods of discipline work on all children and you shouldn't spank a kid until there are bruises, because that's excessive, but SOMETHING works with every child, whether it's an ass busting or taking away toys or grounding.  The problem is that most parents don't give enough of a shit to figure out what their kids respond to, so they just let them get away with it.  If grounding isn't working, if taking away toys or games isn't working, if restricting free time with friends isn't working, bust some ass.  I'm a firm believer that the punishment should fit the crime and if my 5 year old (who doesn't exist yet) ever tells ME to fuck off, I guarantee he/she won't ever do it again.

My views on this so-called New Generation is that yes the world is changing, and there is practically nothing we can do about it. It is already in motion, and any effort to stop it would be a futile attempt. It's like stopping a tsunami, you can't do that. ;9

The world is changing, and so are its inhabitants.

People blame the internet, people blame the media, people blame video games, etc.  But don't forget one thing, people: who is behind all of that?  Well, more people, that's for sure.

What I am trying to say is that, the root of all of this, is ourselves.

And here I come with my least favorite word: ignorance.  Ignorance is the root of many evils; if not all.

Children become parents nowadays; the difference between now and the old times when the same thing happened, is that today's children don't possess the life experience they need in order to take care of themselves; least take care of other children.  In other times, those children worked and helped their parents every day; life was very different.  But in a world where we expect that others will give us everything we need and want, the same can't happen.  We depend too much on our parents, siblings, friends, etc.  When a 13-year-old gives birth to a child, she may not know how to cook; she may be doing terribly at school, she can't have a job (legally), she can't expect to give her child what the any child needs.  And she may become angry, feeling that her life has been ruined with that baby.  And it's that child who will have to bear with that, not her.  He will grow up with that, and probably make the same mistakes, and the new generation he creates might repeat the same pattern; or in many cases: it will get worse.  And so, society keeps degrading.  For lack of knowledge, for lack of experience.  For lack of wisdom.  For carrying the burdens of previous generations.

So I am not saying it's directly OUR fault, or our parents' fault.  It's fault of the circumstances in which we live, in which we grow up.  Or it could be the cause of something else.  But in most cases, in the end, everything comes down to that.  Maybe you have a wonderful family, with parents who love you and give you everything, including love.  But just one mistake, and it could ruin everything.  You could have a friend whose life is the opposite of yours.  And he might influence the way you think and act if you are not strong enough.  All it takes is to have a low self-esteem.

And there is much more I could say about this, but I am tired of typing, heheh...

Sorry for this mess of a post.  I hope you don't get confused.  I gotta go now, so I'll revise it later.

Yeah but the law is now prevent certain disciplinary action that was allowed in the 80s and before. They call it child abuse now. For those who had a reason to punish there children for saying "fuck off". Then it was those who beat them into the hospital. Those people who did that pushed that law into place. That law is getting stricter every year. So one more to blame would be laws.

Discipline is necessary.  There are two extremes, of course. And either is bad.   Just as it is bad to give your children too much freedom, it is also bad to deprive them of it too much.

Sometimes I felt that my mother was protecting me too much.

When a company picks Call of Duty 4 was a console demo, something's wrong. It eludes me how these games are given a suitable rating to be put on display. During most of my big electronic store walkthroughs, there's usually a little kid playing one of these violent demos.

Videogames have never been the problem. It's the same thing with movies. Since when has somebody who watched one of the Saw movies gone around forcing people into situations where they had to kill themselves?

Videogames are just easier to blame. Now, there are situations where the person cannot tell the difference between reality and fantasy, but that's something else altogether.

The reason is plain and simple: BAD PARENTING>:(
When I see kids playing violent games in a store like Futureshop or Best Buy, I wonder where the hell the parents are. Why aren't they around? Why don't they care or why do they think it is alright? Young kids, like seven or eight, should not have access to these kinds of games. If you aren't part of the solution, you are just contributing to the problem with philosophical apathy. All the previous responses regarding moral compass are just red herrings from the actual discussion.

Point in short: parents are supposed to guide children.

Corporations also have every right to be responsible. Why the hell is your demo game a violent first person shooter anyway? Not just any kind of action game either. It's a kind of game that only older teens or adults should be playing. Isn't that what the rating is for?

Corporate responsability is important too. Do you think it is right for liquor and cigarettes to be sold to children just because it's good business? What about the pawn broker who takes that nice stereo from the crackhead, knowing the crackhead broke a car to get it and then stabbed the guy that tried to stop him. Don't blame the pawn broker for anything. It's just business. Or how's this. Avent, one of the leaders in baby products, never recalled any of their BPA-laced plastics when my government banned the deadly infant neurotoxin from all products. They came out with a BPA-free product, but are still selling their BPA neurotoxin bottles and products anyway. According to them, it's not their responsability. It's the consumer's responsability to choose! IMAGINE THAT!

Point in short. Videogame companies should be part of the solution instead of contributing to a larger problem.

The third problem nowadays is that KIDS KNOW THEIR RIGHTS. If a parent wants to hit them physically in any form whatsoever, once the kids call the police, the kids will be taken away into custody, and the parents are charged.

About physcical discipline. There should be limits to how far a parent can go. A slap when you go way out of line should be fine, but something like hitting the child because they're crying should be a no-go and should be considered excess use of force.

EDIT : And when I say hitting, I'm referring to hand balled into fist and trying to go through the kids face lol

It turns out spanking is legal in Canada, but only to children between the ages of 2 and 12, and only if reasonable force is used.

How do you define reasonable force in the eyes of the government? After all, spanking isn't pleasant. It hurts.
