I'm thinking about making a remake of Final Fantasy 2 (the original for the NES). Of course, you're all probably wondering why this is necessary, since this game has been re-released to the WSC, GBA, PSX, and PSP.
Basically, what I want to do is elaborate on the development of the story prior to the beginning of actual FF2. For those of you who are unaware or who need a refresher, FF2 begins with four orphans from the town of Phin/Fynn/Finn fleeing from the pursuit of imperial knights who just invaded the town. This isn't really a spoiler, since you'd literally need to play the game for about 10 seconds to find this information out.
In addition and in combination with elaborating on the story prior to this event in the game, I would like to try to provide some depth to the otherwise shallow characters. Not only will there be character-specific events, interactions with new characters, and other features designed to make the plot more engaging, characters will also receive their own unique skill sets. This will offset that the game's characters are identical aside from sprite/portrait differences and starting statistics.
Overall, the goal of the remake is to make the original story more dramatic, memorable, and engaging. My goal in posting these objectives is to get the following information from anyone reading:
How interesting is this project?
How feasible is this project?
And lastly: Would anyone be willing to help with the project? The most difficult aspects will be trying to implement the unique battle system present in Final Fantasy 2, in which stats, skills, and magic increase with repeated use. I suspect that this will require a custom battle system.
Thank you in advance for your feedback.
