[RESOLVED] 2K3 issue: Battle characters imported, but not selectable

After working through a few issues including color depth, i finally got a sprite sheet of Leo from FFVI (for battle) imported into RPG Maker 2K3. The trouble is, the battle animation select isn't like the character animation select.

I.E., its a drop down menu whereas the character select is a whole new window. The battle animation select isn't showing my Leo sprites, and i tried to mimic the battle animation sheets pre-built into 2K3 as much as possible. I broke a couple rules though, but would that keep me from being able to select it?

Heres pictures of the 2 sheets i have.

Leo Battle Sheet 1: http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/7618/leobattle1dk7.png

Leo Battle Sheet 2: http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/313/leobattle2uo6.png

The differences here compared to the ones that come with the program are:

1: For the "dazed" animation, FFVI uses 4 sprites for that one usually, and i couldn't really think of a way to make it less awkward without all 4, so i tried shrinking them down and squeezing them in

2: I couldn't end up fitting all 8 rows of sprites into the first one, so i carried one row onto the second (the walking back animation). On the premade ones, the second sheet only has 3 animations, whereas mine has 4

3: Some rows are copies of others.

Sorry if this question has been answered already in a different way, but it wasn't in the FAQ and i searched alot of the troubleshooting forum already.

i don't know much about photoshop, but i think your problem is that the sprites in the sheet are jumbled

Try matching it with a RTP sheet.

In the RTP sheet, the first animation (top left) is standing but in this, i think, it's punching

So if you know photoshop, then you can arrange this according to the RTP ones.

There's no other way i can suggest ;-;

Oh, no, thats his casting animation. Kinda looks like a block or something doesnt it?

And the top row in all the battle character sprite sheets i've seen so far is their casting animation

And i'm using Paint. Sorry if i didn't mention that.

If all characters have the same sheet, then can you tell me which spell is screwing up?

or is every spell screwing up?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by spells screwing up. I meant that the FFVI casting animation for Leo kinda looks like he's blocking instead of casting something.

The main problem is that after importing the sheets into BattleCharSet in 2K3, i don't see them on the dropdown menu.

Okay:

This is the import menu. As you can see, "leo battle1" and "leo battle2" are there, imported and ready. But...

here on the dropdown menu, leo isn't selectable. I have this powerful feeling i'm missing a step in all this...

EDIT: I was just looking at the pictures i put up here, and i figured it could be something name related, since every other file in there had a dash instead of a space. But, upon renaming it quite a few times, i still have no luck. I'll edit the post agian if i find anything.

1.) The dazed animation when put in will come out looking weird. There can only be 3 sprites in a row to make it look good. A good example is this Wario battle charset from Charas:

Each box is 48x48 pixels. The animation goes from left to right, on each row, going from the left square, to the center square, and finally to the right square. If you've been able to import them into 2k3, then that means that the image is the correct size and shouldn't be resized. For more information, check under Help (the icon on the main screen that's a purple book with a question mark) and then check under the section Specifications --> Image Specifications.

2.) The reason it's not showing up is because in the Database, you have to go into the section labeled "Animations 2". Then you have to create a blank space there by clicking "Array Size" then making it go one step higher. Then click on that newly formed space. Name it whatever, and then click the tab labeled "Poses". In each box click "Set" then select the battle charset with whatever the thing is on it (If you picked the one labeled "Idle" then click the picture of the guy's idle stance). After filling all these in (not the ones with no name, those are for other functions) you can go to the Hero screen and select it from the dropdown.

Hope that helped.

oh god, i didn't even bother LOOKING through most of the tabs >_<

Thanks alot man, i KNEW i was missing a step somewhere. I appreciate it!

oh, also thanks for the sprite sheet info. I'm still in the "trial and error" phases of putting those things together, and this helps.

I'll just go ahead and put resolved at the front of the title now.

oh so this is what you meant.

If you need to add a tileset or a character, you have to first create him through animations/tileset place ^_^

just like monsters.
