freezing game while talking [RMXP]

how do i make everything else freeze exept what i want going on in Rpg maker Xp.
another question is how do i make text come on right after the person starts a new game and before the map shows. an example is making ext apear on a black screen.

Make the person start on a screen with white all over it. Make sure the player starts with no graphic. Then make an event run on "Autorun" with the contents as you want it.
