Doors.....Shazzam!

This tutorial is used for the people who want to know how to make a decent door:


First of all make and event on which door you want.
Then make the graphic of the door you want.
Then go to your database and go the the comment event tab
When you are there make a new one called door.
Right-click in the event plot box and then go to the second tab and click move event.
Then click the change graphic choose the door you are wanting to use.(Make sure that you use the first one on the very right.)
Once you got the first graphic, then put wait in and make it 4 frames.
Then click the change graphic button and choose the the second graphic of the door you want.
Then put another wait that should be 4 frames.
Keep doing this until you get all the door animations for that door.
Once you're done with the door animations, put a sound effect of the door opening under the door animations.
Once you have done that click okay.
Now you are done with the comment event.
Now go back to the event on where you want the door.
In the event plot box put the comment event command which should be called "door" in there.
THen put 17 frames under that.
Then after that put on where you want that door to go.
NOTE: Make sure the door graphic in the event is lock facing ,and no movement animation.......
Note: YOu also do this same thing with teh chest. they both are very similiar

@kaigen20 I wouldn't recommend using a common event for doors (note it's called common, not comment ;)).
A door is far too simple for this being a good idea. I can see your idea though. Just calling the common event waiting for it to finish.
Instead of manually selecting the graphics I would suggest [Left,Right,Up].
That's the structure the RTP graphics are using for the opening sequence.

About your tutorial:
It's confusing. There's too many fall-outs (places where you can misunderstand what you should do).
It took me a while before understanding what you wanted people to do.
You should have used pictures instead. It would be easier explaining the door tutorial with a picture of the door event and the common event.

@Neko A good plain old door. You don't need the 'Turn Down', the second command on the Set Move Route.

I've also made a door. It's just a bit different. Here is it:

Before commenting it, try implementing it.


Find the one you like best of all the doors in this topic and use it, or alter it and then use it.

Your Face Down is not needed.
You might as well just put a wait on 1 frame.

I still prefer mine over yours as the general door.
I think yours would be great if you unlocked a door. I may even use it for that.
I would remove the player move as don't like it.

It's good that people have another door to choose from. So thanks for posting it here.

One must assume that the door is facing the correct way.
If not it looks crappy anyway.

As there are 4 ways a door can face you only need to make it face 3 ways.

I am as well as you assuming the structure of the door being:
Face Down - Closed
Face Left - Nearly Closed
Face Right - Nearly Open
Face Up - Open

I am also assuming that the door is closed when you try to open it.
If you are more hysterical you can make a door like this:



Place the sound effect where ever you see fit.
