as I said in the header I need to know how to change my new charsets,
tilesets, weapon sets, etc. into 256 colours and 8 bit because I was told
if you check it's proprieties it should be there but I couldn't find anythign
on the 256 colours and 8 bit. So can anybody tell me how to do it and
if there is a process to go through to find it and change it
or if it's just a program I need.
thnx

You could keep all these related questions in a single topic, so people who want to help you know what's already been suggested and tried.

You didn't tell me what graphics program you're using.  Paint doesn't do it, but I imagine The Gimp (free program) would.  There are a number of other graphics programs that would do it for you, but not many that are free.  What programs do you have available?  You've just got to find a decent one to use.

Did that image I emailed back to you import ok?

mmm - that link I provided in the other topic mentioned somewhere in the menu you could go to see the requirements for different types of images.  Did you check that out?  Your image may be too wide, or too tall.  Or it may not be the correct format (.png, .bmp).  Sorry I can't help you out much more than that - it sounds like the 256 colours is ONE thing that's wrong with the images, but not the only thing.

hmmm...I've had this happen too.  Is it the right image size as well as the right bit depth?  I've freaked out so many times when it doesn't import, only to find that it was one or two pixels bigger or smaller than it needed to be.  Or it's the right size but I didn't save it to 8-bit 256 color.

If you're confused on how to do it yourself I can quickly whip up a screen-vid showing how to do it in Paint if you like.

Yeah I get that problem now and then myself. Lucky for me I have photoshop! If u use photo shop you can open up the image, then go to the "edit" window and scroll down to "Mode" (i think it's called mode :-\) another scroll window will come up, select the "Bitmap" option. It will come up asking for the color options, choose "Windows (256 color). Careful though...if ur tile sets background is something like green it may mess it up and cause you to have two different colored pixels which would be appearent in RPG Maker o_0. It's better to use a blue or white background for this. Next save the image as a PNG file, and if an option comes up asking if it should interlace the image choose "None." Provided the file is the right size, RPG Maker should accept it now. Sometimes saving as a bitmap can work, but i find it more successful to save as PNG...
If you don't have Photoshop I think you can download a trail version from the internet, which should be good for at least 30 days...hope this post is of some use. :blizj:

It can, and here's a vid showing how to save or reformat an image to RPGM compatibility using Paint.

BEWARE: large file size with useful info contained within.  (.zip folder = ~24 MB)

Best viewed in Windows Media Player on Full Screen, as it is a full-screen capture.
