hey all.

So...I'm getting a tablet (peripheral) so that i can draw digitally, because it is easier and slightly more effective than copic markers.

It also conserves space.

However, I'm considering making resources (sprites, tilesets) with it, due to it being easier to color with and whatnot.

1. would you reccomend this?

2. If so, what program should I use? (paint is actually pretty good for sprite work, although i dont know how well it would work with a "pen")

GIMP 2.3.18 bitches!
Why would you ask us to recommend that for you?  Just try it out when you get your tablet.

If you don't want to use paint then use something like gimp, photoshop, pixia, etc.
Go suck a lemon! lol

I'd think if you got really comfortable using the tablet then yeah results may be good.

It depends on your tablet drawing skills, are you compatible with it or not ?
Even if you're a good drawer on paper, doesn't always mean you'll be good when drawing with tablet.

Freehand is pretty useful.

yeah...
i used my friend's tablet, and just in the 3 hours i spent with it (about 2-3 good drawings out of like, 10 sketches), i got it pretty well.

a tablet for sprites? doesnt sound efficent. its more for artistic thingys, like full scale drawings, and those sorts. like it makes shading drawings n junk on the computer easier. it might be inconvenient with sprites, unless theyre cartooney like. same with tilesets. its a good ambition, if you use it in ways that dont complicate your life :P

technically, this should be moved to Game Maker...

anyways, the GIMP is great for this sort of thing. You can draw large drawings, and then scale them down without getting the same effect as paint.

I realize Tablets are good for drawing, as well as Open Canvas, which is why ill probably have to learn to use both :P (GIMP+OC)

Adobe Photoshop is what I use, it's awesome! You can do anything with it. ANYTHING! I used Gimp2 for awhile but photoshop is WAY BETTER! The gimp2 is free though, so I like it's pricetag better.

yeah photoshop can resize images really well, not too sure about gimp, but you can resize and it will auto scale it for you, and fix it up so it looks proper in its new size

as for spriting and resizing it to a smaller scale

i doubt it would be good unless you fixed up the pixels and all

and i doubt you would get any good result sample resizing a 640 x 480 image to a 200 x something the eyes and some parts of the pixel would be shifted and it would be ruin. im talking bout small scales coz this is the only thing im good at lol.
