OK; lets get the info down first.

A. It's a rope where you go down a wall via a rope. If you've ever played Splinter Cell, you'd know what I mean.
Q. ZOMG This tut is teh pwn do it work with RPG Maker 2000 or XP?!?!
A. No. Only 2000 and 2003.
Well, thats pretty much all the Q and A...
OK, here we go. Make a map thats 20 width and about 40 high, use a Tile set and make something like this.
It doesn't have to be specifically like that, but try to make a tall ledge like so.
OK, lets get to the events. As seen above, I have a Statue, and a lot of events going down, right? Well, the statue is there to make it seem like you have something to "Tie" the rope to as you Rappel down.
Before you go any farther, open up the Database and make a new item called "Rappel Rope", a common item. Make it cost about 500 ~ 1000 (Anywhere between there's fine), and a description to match well.
Lets take a peek at the events in the tile below the Statue...
Now, lets do a walk through of how to get that..
Make a message like "Do you want to rappel down the cliff?" Now, show choices Yes/no. Now in yes...
Make a conditional branch where it reads "IF hero has at least 1 Rappel Rope" then have a item remove (Found in the first column, first page in the options) ONE of the Rappel ropes.Now fit in a wait script for 1 tenths of a second. Now make it turn on [000*]RappelSwitch.
Now lets look at the ropes...
Simple, eh? Just had a rope appearance when "RappelSwitch" turns on. BUT! We need to make it seem like your "jumping" down the rope, so we had to make a new page. Lets look at it...
Ohh, it's sorta confusing. Lets break it down. Key Input processing: Uncheck all boxes EXCEPT [Yes, uncheck wait] the one that has 5 next to it with the Variable RappelSys. Now, Make a conditional branch where it's "IF Var [000*]Rappelsys is five", make a new move event for moving the hero down three tiles at the highest frequency. Copy / paste the rope all the way to the bottom of the cliff. Now BELOW the last rope, make a FINAL event.
The trigger switch is [000*] Rappel1, and it's on hero touch. Make it wait 1 tenth of a second, face up, and turn the switch ([000*] Rappel1) off. The rope dissapear, and you have rappelled down the cliff. Good day!
