I know it's a matter of preference, but I can't decide between the two. ><! I've tried both and found 2K3 to be easy and fun, and XP was just as fun but difficult for my scattered brain. x___x; Cuz.... well, the only thing that troubled me was scripting and such. =x

2K3 is better for various reasons, one being an Inn Option in the list of Events. That's just my opinion though.

fmalust

Yeah, I think I'mma play with RK3. <.< XP is too much for someone as slow as I am, and I'll be constantly needing help for scripting and such. <.< Thanks!! XD  ;8

i quite like XP, but 2K3 had the old school feel to it... And you think your slow? took me about a month or 2 to actually figure out what the different layers did

XP is only alot of work if your making your own scripts and such :-\

if you use the scripts other's are willing to share(and give them credit) youll find that its not that much harder than 2k3 :)

BUT hey i sure as heck liked all teh lil choices 2k3 had, like attack twice, or run up and attack.... that stuff was awesome ;8
FF-11 was a tough game, but i beat it! with the help of friends :) www.geocities.com/farflong41

You can do allot more With XP than 2003. The Inn can easily be done in XP.

Also, scripting makes XP way better.

fmalust

Pshaw... xD It was easy to get the layers to work. But I had A LOT of problems with scripts and all... like, when I tried to use StormTronic (I think that's it?) Menu thing, I didn't know how to get rid of the thing that asked for faces, and when I would get rid of Arshes and everyone and put in my own character it wouldn't work anymore. I would've just been a hassle by asking this and that about scripts, cuz I saw a lot of people scolded for not knowing how to modify them and all so yeah... ._.; I want side-view battle system too, but I can hardly find good battlers and monsters for it. -.-; I might play with XP again though cuz RK3 is too different, I used to like using it but now I'm used to XP. ><;

People aren't scolded for not knowing how to modify scripts, they're scolded for not searching, or using common sense.  Most people understand that scripting is hard to learn, it takes a lot of patience, and (even less shown around here) common sense.

I prefer XP over 2k3, simply because that's what I started out on, I have both, but I rarely open 2k3.

The side view battle system isn't bad, just search around you can find a good amount of sprites on other sites.  It's not hard to make your own sprites either really.

I like RPG Maker 2003 because it truely gives the feel of old SNES games, (depending on the graphics). I like XP too, but for the two games I'm making at the moment, 2003 seems more appropriate. I don't lke XP's scrawny sprites. It looks like they need a good feed! I also find the sprites are harder to edit compared to 2003's.
But that's my opinion. :)

Hello everyone.  Compared to the amount of time I have used on 2k and 2k3, my time with RMXP is pathetic.
I love the graphics of XP and the layer option but... I feel it downgraded when it moved from 2k3.

I think this for several reasons actually.
1.) they took out the side view battle and went back to the older style of fighting, which is actually more boring to me. (yes i know you can code in the side view IF you know the code and IF you have all the right sprites and animations)

2.) the took out the oh so fun random dungeon generator that I had so much fun playing with. (heh you could actually set it up to where the dungeon randomly changed every time the player set foot in the dungeon)

3.) they took out a map set for generic over world map so now I cant just have a world map view, I would have to actually go map for map kind of like Secret of Mana did, sure thats not bad but that takes time and I prefer the world map view anyway, but thats just personal preference right there.

4.) how come I cant make a bridge?  I went to make one of my favorite style of towns that has various houses on grass with a small road leading to each one.  With water around the town on the far edges of the map with a little bridge over the water...

5.) same with doors/openings, I have to make it an event, why cant I just make it part of the layer and then decide to just add an invisible event on it like I could in 2k3

hmmm.... thats all for now

Me=Not a Pervert. Purity is wackable. ALL anime girls are 18.  Ok, so 9 and 9 make 18

For this, it's a matter of preferences. for my preferences, i'll say rpg maker 2003
All right, let's see the way i look at things :o ;D

-More ressources.

when i mean more ressources, i mean WAYYYY more ressources, and generators can be found online. i also mean, they're easier to draw/edit. it gives the users more opportunity for having ideas throught their games.

-Vehicles.

weird huh? rmxp has no vehicles at all? yup. ok then, people will say''theres scripts for it'' or ''you can make them yourself with a 2 pages-events. use phasing mode blablabla''
NO! no vehicles is working better than those in rpg maker 2003. period.

-Sideviews battles.

Now we're talking! we can finally see our characters fighting! which means, people that really likes to work on their game, will have MORE to work on! BattleCharSets, BattleWeapons etc..

Rpg Maker XP:
Better graphics. how does it matter? who loved ff3 more than ffx-2?

No Inn? well, no inn. i've seen people complaining about it. that's actually dumb(without beeing mean) just input a couple of messages,a conditional branch with ''if the player has that amount or more, then substract it blabla''

No Vehicles: 1 word. Ouch

FrontViews Battles: In That Case, It doesn't matter really. i just rather sideviews battles. some will rather fronts.

so now,it seems like i hate rpg maker xp or whatever. did i forgot something? yup, the amazing script mode, which rpg make 2003 doesn't have.

Scripts allow you to modify the current rpg maker xp(in a way,of course) i won't name any of theese scripts, but some of them allow you do have sideviews battles, vehicules or whatever. the thing is,i'm totally against scripts. let's ask each others a question? what is fun in rpg maker? MAKING A GAME,AND EXPLORING IT. unless you know(ruby?) language, i see no interest/fun into using that mode.

again, let's all remember. it's an opinion. I said ''I'' all the way, not saying people that are using rpg maker xp are suckers or whatever. i tried both, and i rather rm2k3. period.

Thank you people, and have a nice day!
