I'll paste my post here that I posted over there:
What is going to be done about resources currently out there? I'm sure there are loads of people out there (including myself) that have simply created stuff and posted it, content that surely nobody is going to be silly enough to actually try and sell an RPG Maker game.
Though here we are, (congratulations on starting a bandwagon for people trying to sell their games!) commerial stuff :/
I would be pissed to find a resource I'd made in a game that's now being sold for money. More pissed at people buying it, and it's creator earning money off my work.
Not that I do anymore, but if I were to create resources for people to use in their games, I would (and
strongly advise that you) apply a license that expressly
forbids usage in anything for commercial gain.
A great license for doing this is a
Creative Commons license.
I personally, for the music I create, use a
CC "by-nc-sa" license.
This basically lets people copy and share my work and create derivatives, though forbids it's usage in any commercial project
and also any derivative work they create from it from being used comercially. For resource creators, this means that they would have to personally get your express permission and either not use your work, use it with your permission, or pay you / share revenue.
For the normal guys out there just making free games, nothing changes, they can use your resources however they like, so long as they credit you.
There are other types of Creative Commons licenses, some more restrictive and some less, and I'd advise you to check them out.
Finally, the download manager. Are you going to implement some kind of system on there that allows contributors to specify how they'd like their work used? I don't want to see any of my contributions to it used for a commercial game.
