making your own character and stuff

I was wondering if i needed a special program to make my own characters and items and stuff. i want to make a little sail boat too, so stuff like that.

Any suggestions?

You can basically use any drawing program. There are certain requirements for character sets, animations, and etc. I saw this really cool/good icon tutorial on hbgames.org (you must log in to see) http://www.hbgames.org/forums/showthread.php?t=8446

but how would i make a boat that you can ride in? thats what i want to make, a small sail boat with movement controls and stuff

Well, you can make a boat character set from Paint or Photoshop, or whatever. Or, you coul get it from somewhere else. You would also need a character set of a person on the boat. Then, it would need eventing. This is RMXP you're talking about, right? Anyways, if it is, then you make it so when you press action key, then you can teleport your guy onto the water and make him able to go over water (somehow). Then you change the boat's graphic to [none] and the hero's graphic to the hero on the boat. Make sense? Probably not ><

Well, that first link of Nouman's contains an online character maker. For objects, you'll need to make your own or find them.
