Linux developers claim that Linux is the best operating system in the world.
I say: Linux is completely pointless. There are thousands of Linux distros
available (I've lost count) free of charge, and no one is using any of 'em.
What's the point? There's barely any difference between these distros; most
of them do the same stupid shit and barely differ from each other in terms
of functionality. Why make all these shitty distros no one will use?
Instead of making a reduntant amount of worthless crap, why not combine your
efforts and make one good operating system only? That being said, Linux is
just quantity. Seriously. Every kind of software application Linux has to
offer is available on Windows or Mac OS X, and more often than not, it's
superior on Windows. There's nothing unique about Linux except being open
source, and supposedly more "secure" than closed source.
Speaking of security, Linux isn't secure either. It's just that no one
is using it. Ergo, no one cares about attacking Linux. I don't count the 3%
usage share it has right now as a user base; such a low usage share is not notable.
If you have no users, then you also have no security issues as a direct result of
lacking potential victims.
That's not true, Linux is very easy and it's impossible* to get viruses on. I would take a non virus computer over crappy windows any day. I lost lots of very important stuff on windows.
Ubuntu is extremely sweet, and that fact that it gives you a dead list of things that will work, and update it and install it for you, now that's the lazy mans linux. But there is a downside to it, it's not like most Linuxes where you don't need the driver software for dvd players or burners etc..., you have to something else. But it's still a lot cheaper than the 50 you're going to give up to windows.
Linux is simple, all you need to know is how to work the terminal and everything shall go as planned. And you only need basic terminal knowledge at that.
The distorts have enough different things about them that people think of it as, if you will: a more open version and compatible version of windows.
Anyway, you can run most everything you would need on windows through WINE. And you can have a linux that's exactly like windows, just less viruses, only, it's a big thing to emulate. And I have seen it with my eyes, and it is just like windows. Only safer.
I use Windows and Linux on the same pc. Just different hard drivers. Linux isn't hard to use, it's just people who don't give a crap about learning simple commands like "mkdir" etc... that gives Linux the title "Hard". And underneath Mac, all it is, is a version of Linux. (That's True)
I like windows, it just doesn't like me...that's all. And see, Liinux does. Ubuntu is awesome, it's not really like every other one out there. There are like four different versions: Edbuntu, Ubuntu and I forget the others, but Ubuntu I use, and I don't think I could ever go back. Although I do like KDE.
GIMP comes standard. I love GIMP!
Anyway it's up to you. I think it would be best to try an ISO of Ubuntu and check it out. it's up there with SNES and the Wii.
*People don't have a need to make a virus for Linux. Linux=World Peace!
Ubuntu will let you run Flash as long as you have the player. (Flash Player, not maker) I Haven't looked into getting Macromedia Flash 8 on my Ubuntu, but I'm sure as hell WinE will do it. (WinE = Windows Emulator)
Yes, LINUX FOR LIFE!
