Can I make this game?

Okay so Im a complete newb to RPGMXP and Ive always wanted to make a game.  I have one in mind, called Gembreeders, it would be very similar to the pokemon series but a little more "grown up" and alot of different concepts.  Im wondering if itd be possible to "capture" the monsters and have them join your party and raise their attributes etc.  can this be done with RPGMXP?  If so can someone point me in the right direction to learn the ways to do this?

You can do this using event's...I never tried, but I think it can.
Or otherwise, there are a lot of people making pokémon games, try to ask them for things like this
